Celebrate 20 Years of Summer Camp Aug. 27 at Camp Kutz
This summer
we celebrate the Twentieth Anniversary of our Overnight Camp. More
than 2,000 people have been a part of the camp through the years!
Thanks to you and so many other staff people for making this special
for all of us. The more we think about the camp, the more memories
start flooding back. Of course we have to celebrate - and we hope you will
join us:
A special
performance by Arm-of-the-Sea Mask and Puppet Theatre 'Mutual Strangers -
Henry Hudson and the River that Discovered
Him' on Thursday evening, August 27th at 7:00 p.m.
The special performance and fundraiser features "Mutual
Strangers: Henry Hudson and the River that Discovered Him," a new show
commemorating the 400th anniversary of Hudson's
voyage.
Set in September, 1609, in Mutual Strangers a small ship
sent from Europe to find a northern route to
the Orient sails 150 miles up a river on the "unknown" North American
continent. The events that transpire on that voyage -- the encounters of
European sailors and indigenous people, and the information brought back to the
Dutch East India Company in Amsterdam
-- prefigure the interaction of cultures that will shape a new nation.
With stunning visuals and live music, Arm-of-the-Sea
harnesses the transformational energy of mask and puppet theatre to re-imagine
from multiple points of view Hudson's
voyage on the river that now bears his name. Based on the log of first mate
Robert Juet, and the oral traditions of Lenape and Mahican peoples, Mutual
Strangers presents a collage of overlapping narratives to mark the 400th
anniversary of this world-changing voyage. The show is designed to engage
audiences of many ages and walks of life.
The Rural &
Migrant Ministry's Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) has
run a free summer camp for migrant and rural children for 20 years. YEP enables youth to have greater
control of their lives as they explore and internalize the concepts of
self-worth, leadership and democracy.
Arm-of-the-Sea
Theater is a not-for-profit organization based in Saugerties. Its five-member
performance company tours cultural centers, festivals and schools throughout the
eastern half of the country.
Tickets are available at the door and will cost $10 for
adults and $5 for children. Camp Kutz is at 46
Bowen Road in Warwick. All proceeds will benefit the summer
camp. Call 845-485-8627 for reservations, directions or additional information.
