Mega-Adoption Event Breaks 2010 Record
OK Humane presented its third mega-adoption event May 13-15. Midnight Woofness III: Under the Big Top exceeded its goal of 500 adoptions in 48 hours by placing 565 animals in forever homes. The event kicked off Friday at midnight with more than 100 people lined up, ready to adopt a new best friend. Orange Rex entertained the crowd with juggling and balloon animals and the Midway was filled with carnival snacks and games for the whole family.
Midnight Woofness III: Under the Big Top included new elements, most notably the Big Top Tricks and Tails contest. The winner of the contest will serve as the official OK Humane mascot for one year. |Read More| |
Local Kids Support Homeless Pets
Everyone loves a good birthday party, especially when you're the guest of honor. Cake, games and presents make the day
extra special. Henry Amis and Juliet Parish recently turned 10 years old and for their birthday they chose to use this day to support a good cause. Instead of receiving gifts, Henry and Juliet asked all their friends to bring donations for OK Humane. They collected piles of food, treats and other necessary items needed at the Adoption Center as well as donated $25. |Read More|

We thought about it very carefully-especially how Briana might react-but after only a day or two of contemplation we knew that we wanted to take Rhoda. | Read More|

Free Love, Adopt Today
Central Oklahoma Humane Society has joined the ASPCA®/Fresh Step® Fee-Waived Cat Adoption Campaign this June, which is Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month. Did you know that fee-waived adoptions can benefit not only the animal and pet parent, but the shelter too? ASPCA research recently published in the Journal of Applied Animal Welfare Science found that waiving fees for adult cats boosts adoptions without diminishing the value adopters place on their cats. Plus, surprisingly, fee-waived adoptions may actually decrease shelter costs by reducing the average length of stay for adult cats, and also could increase donations and store product sales due to an increase in adopters. | Read More|
