Central Oklahoma Humane Society introduces:

 "Rita's Angel Fund"
Oklahoma Humane Society
Rosie's
Story

Puppy mills are a huge problem in Oklahoma and contribute significantly to our overwhelming pet overpopulation.  Oklahoma is second in the nation for the number of puppy mills due to lack of regulation and oversight.  These puppy mills produce puppies in mass quantities and sell them to unsuspecting families on-line, through web-sites and on street corners.  The breeding dogs spend their entire life with little or no vet care and living situations that are despicable.  Most often, puppy mill dogs live their lives in small confined spaces that are rarely cleaned and may only be three feet by three feet in diameter.   These dogs live day to day in their cages, never getting to experience the feel of grass and never having a lap to cuddle in or a soft touch of a hand.  When they are no longer able to produce, they are often discarded at auctions where their future is even more uncertain than before.

Rosie - Before

This is Rosie, a 6 year old Shih Tzu that was rescued from a puppy mill in August 2009.  Fortunately for Rosie, she was rescued from deplorable living conditions but now has a bright future ahead.  Upon closer examination of Rosie when she came in, it was discovered she suffered from a fractured femur and was not able to walk on it.  The leg was very limp and basically unusable.  Rosie was able to receive prompt veterinary care and consults from local surgeons that revealed two things.  First, this fracture was old and had already healed incorrectly.  She had lived for a long period of time like this and suffered unnecessary pain all in the name of producing puppies.  Secondly, it was too late to save the leg.  The leg needed to be amputated.

Rosie - After

  Oklahoma Humane Society
Look at her now! She has recovered very nicely and doesn't really know she is missing her leg. Rosie is ready to find a forever home to live a peaceful and serene life.  Without you, outcomes such as these are not possible.  Rosie needed veterinary attention that was immediate and costly.  That is why we are introducing "Rita's Angel Fund".  This emergency fund was started to enable the Central Oklahoma Humane Society to have resources available to those animals who have extra and special needs.  These animals need a special fund in order to have a second chance. Without this emergency fund the only option for these animals is humane euthanasia.  With your donation YOU have the ability to directly save a life.

The funds just aren't there right now, but with your help, we can make this possible.  These animals deserve a chance and have always held a special place in the heart of board member, Rita Hoch.  For many years, she has had to skip over the animals that needed extra help, because the funds were not available to treat them.  With the creation of the angel fund, dogs and cats like Rosie will live to experience a loving home. You have the opportunity to make the Angel Fund possible today.

There is no better satisfaction than that.
