Oklahoma Humane Society e-News

Great News!

As of this writing, we have trapped, neutered and returned 1,437 cats as part of our TNR program since March 2007!

Special thanks to all the volunteers who spend countless hours trapping and caring for these cats.  We are all truly making a difference for stray cats in Oklahoma City!

Great Article! Hard Work Pays Off: First Doggy Derby a Smash Hit!

Doggy DerbyMore than 1000 people and their dogs showed up to the Oklahoma Humane Society's first major fundraiser, held May 3 at Remington Park.  Attendees enjoyed frisbee dog demos, a live performance by the Wise Guys, a nail-biter of a mascot competition with celebrity judges, various vendors and tons of fun activities for kids. The Doggy Derby was presented by The Oklahoman Foundation.  Sponsors included Barking Dog Bakery, Louise & Clay Bennett, Garman Productions, LLC, Jordan Associates, Lucky Dog Lodge, Midfirst Bank and News 9.

All proceeds from the Doggy Derby will go to fund OK Humane's spay/neuter clinic.  Plans are in the works for a low-cost clinic open to the public opening sometime soon.
Great Article! OK Humane Society Selects "Yogi" from Yukon as New Mascot

A panel of celebrity judges at the Doggy Derby on May 3 selected a new mascot from among dozens of entrants.

mascot winner"Yogi" belongs to Sharon Tabb and her family and lives in Yukon, OK.  He has two furry siblings who pretty much let him boss them around all the time (his new "official mascot" status hasn't hurt his ego any, either!).  He enjoys sleeping in with his mom and dad.

He absolutely loves to play catch. He would play all day long & never stop if that was possible.  Yogi also loves to play with water from the water hose and playing tug of war with his furry brother.

Yogi also LOVES to ride in the car.  When he rides in the family van he puts his hind legs on the middle seat and his front legs one on each arm rest of the front bucket seats, and "surfs" as the vehicle drives along.

As mascot for the OK Humane Society, Yogi says he would like to achieve World Peace.
Great Article! Sissy Looking for a Home to Call Her Own

Sissy is looking for a new home!"Hi, my name is Sissy!  I am a great big 1 year old puppy that still gets scared of strange or loud things around me.  Look out - I am really smart and will learn how to read your body language so tricking me is not an option.  If taken to an obedience school I will graduate at the top of the class.   I could probably put my feet on the shoulders of most of the humans I meet, but I don't, I am too smart for that.

I have lots of puppy energy and love to play with other dogs as long as they are friendly and big enough that they won't get hurt by my big feet.  There is one thing that will slow me down though, that is a good ear scratching or a belly rub.  I have been spayed and had all of my vaccinations so now all I need is a new family to love and take care of me."

If you're interested in learning more or meeting Sissy, please email Samantha or call 405-286-1229.

Volunteer Spotlight on....
Bill Kaiser!
Bill KaiserBill is a retired Midwest City police officer and has been volunteering since 2005.  He loves Golden Retrievers, and is a very generous person, always helping others.

In fact, he is the handy man to call whenever we at OK Humane need help and he has taken on many a strange job!  Bill is married to Deborah (also a very active volunteer with OK Humane) and they have 12 grandchildren, with their second set of twin grandkids on the way!

If you have someone you'd like to nominate for the Volunteer Spotlight, send a message to news@okhumane.org.
Great Article! "Happy Tails"

We LOVE to see pictures and hear stories of our adopted animals in their new homes!  If you have one to share with us, please send it to news@okhumane.org.

Molly
Molly Mae ( M&M) is her name, and she is making us smile lots!  She is so much fun and Cleo and the cat love her too ( Cleo a little more than the cat :) She is doing so well, she has yet to have a single accident in the house.  She and Cleo have been sleeping together during the day -I think she really likes that nap the best.  The kids adore her too, and she adores them, she's always running after them to see what they could be getting into.  She's just so adorable, thank you so much!  She's just what the doctored ordered!
Kaesy, Lawton, OK

Gaius playing with his new toy
Gaius (aka Joshua) has gone to live with his new mom in Aspen, Colorado!  "He slept the whole time we were at the airport, the whole time we were on the planes and the whole way home.  He's doing amazingly well with the potty training so far!  He now knows where he's supposed to potty and has been doing a great job of letting me know when he needs to go out.  He has really impressed me so far; he is such a good boy!"
Morgan, New Castle, CO
We appreciate the incredible energy and dedication of all our volunteers, trappers and foster parents.  This organization could not accomplish anything without your talents and hard work.  Thank you for all you do.  There is so much on the horizon with OK Humane, and with your help we will be able to accomplish No-Kill in Oklahoma City. Together, we can do it!

Sincerely,

Oklahoma Humane Society
