The Oklahoma Humane Society's SE S/N Clinic has been assisting the OKC

more Shelter adoptions.
One Tuesday, on top of a regularly scheduled Clinic load, we accepted
animals from the OKC Animal Shelter. We want to say such a special
thank you to all the Volunteers. You completely amazed and humbled us
with your dedication, wonderful attitudes and smiles.
Thank you to Caitlin Phillips, Christine Hyde, Deborah Kaiser, Lacy Syverson and Shelley Alvarez.

OKC Home & Garden Show Raises Awareness, Finds Homes for Animals
|
by Lacy Syverson, Outreach Coordinator

The Home and Garden show was such a great success! We want to thank everyone who participated, volunteered, donated, toted animals, helped organize, etc. We really couldn't do these types of things without so many great volunteers. We are happy that we met so many people at the event--if this is your first time receiving this newsletter, welcome!
We did quite a few adoptions at the event. Moose, Gary England, Red, Hudson, Dusty, and at least three kitties found new homes! We also did very well with donations and our silent auction. One of the most important things we do at these types of outreaches is just talking to people. These outreaches are a great chance for us to share information about pet care and overpopulation with the public, let people know who we are and what we do, and encourage people to volunteer and donate. Thanks to all who made this possible and shared their knowledge with others.
Also, the outreaches at the Edmond PetSmart need captains urgently!! Please let me know if you are interested in captaining or coming to volunteer. Thanks for all you do! |

Volunteer Spotlight on....Caitlin Phillips! |
It all started when Caitlin found a dog who needed a home. She approached OK Humane Volunteers (then working as PAL-OK) and asked if we could help. She started attending outreaches with the dog, and eventually he found a home. But Caitlin's heart is really with the cats, and that is where she has been tirelessly working ever since.
If you've ever been to a Petsmart outreach, you've undoubtedly seen Caitlin there; she's at all of them. She fits an amazing amount of cat carriers, cages, boxes, food, toys, litter and other supplies into her Camry and brings OK Humane cats to every outreach, in hopes of finding them homes.
She also works several days a week at our office, cleaning cat cages, medicating, feeding and caring for the cats. Somehow, even with cat litter in her hair and wearing grubby sweats, Caitlin always manages to look great and have a smile on her face!
Caitlin has several foster cats at her home as well, and has recently started volunteering at OK Humane's spay/neuter clinic too. (is there anything she DOESN'T do?!)
Next time you run into Caitlin, tell her thanks. We all have different talents and time that we can give to OK Humane, and Caitlin always gives 110%.
If you have someone you'd like to nominate for the Volunteer Spotlight, send a message to news@okhumane.org. |

TNR Numbers Climbing....
|
The end of February will be officially one year from the date we started our TNR program. So far we have spayed or neutered 1180 feral cats! We are anticipating our annual total to be at or above 1200. Our goal for the year was 1,000, so we have surpassed that already!
This is fantastic news, and will help reduce the number of cats being euthanized in shelters. We could not have had such a successful program in any way without all the volunteers who work so hard to trap and manage colonies. The long, cold nights of feeding and trapping are paying off, and we owe our volunteers a huge round of applause!

Stuff We Need...
|
First and foremost we are in need of foster homes for dogs and puppies. The more homes we have, the more animals we can save. By fostering, you are literally saving an animal from death. Please contact Nancy Lindo, foster coordinator, if you are able to help.
As we get going with our spay/neuter clinic, there are a few supplies that we find ourselves in constant need of. Please bring any of these to our clinic, or contact Samantha to arrange transportation:
- Paper towels
- Bleach
- Disposable rubber gloves
- Rubbing alcohol
- Clinic volunteers!
Don't forget that we also collect soda cans and cat food cans for recycling. We can tell you that our volunteers feed a LOT of cat food and drink a LOT of soda, because these bags of cans add up fast and turn into cash for our operations. Please bag up your aluminum cans and bring them by either of our office locations.

Kibble & Bits

14th Annual Spay Day USA takes place on February 26During Spay Day USA's first 13 years, participants spayed or neutered an estimated 1,387,000 animals!! When you consider that an unspayed cat can give birth to 18 kittens each year and an unspayed dog can give birth to 20 puppies each year, it is clear that Spay Day USA participants have potentially prevented millions of surplus births. Ways YOU can help: Volunteer at a Spay/Neuter Event Spay/Neuter Your Pet Sponsor the Spay/Neuter of an Animal in Need Offer Your Skills - especially Veterinarians and Vet Techs Become a Corporate Sponsor OK Humane Hosts First Blessing of the PetsJoin us for OK Humane's first blessing of the pets! This is the first of many such events at centers of worship around the OKC community. We'll be at the Westminster Presbyterian Church on March 22 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. If your church is interested in participating in a future event, please have them contact christy@okhumane.org.
Dog Behavior Classes Offered to OK Humane VolunteersWe've held two classes so far with our trainer, Kathy Harrison, to rave reviews from our volunteers! She has helped our foster parents understand how their behavior shapes that of their dog or foster dog, and how to use positive reinforcement to elicit proper behavior from a dog who may have had any number of problems in his past. If you are interested in attending our next class, contact Samantha@okhumane.org. |

We appreciate the incredible energy and dedication of all our volunteers, trappers and foster parents. This organization could not accomplish anything without your talents and hard work. Thank you for all you do. There is so much on the horizon with OK Humane, and with your help we will be able to accomplish No-Kill in Oklahoma City. Together, we can do it!
Sincerely,
Oklahoma Humane Society |
