SPRR September Newsletter
Quick Links

Greetings!

Welcome to the September issue of the SPRR E-Newsletter.

I am excited to announce that we have improved our website and added new pages (www.sprr.org)!  We now have a Resources page with links to previous newsletters, Board of Director's meeting minutes, fitness calculators, running clubs, and other miscellaneous resources. Another page that we are in the process of adding is a photo album of individuals or groups within our club doing what we do best, running and socializing.  For specific details regarding how to get your running photos added to our website please visit the Photo Album page.  We would love to visually recognize all of our members but will need your help in doing so.

I am also excited to announce that SPRR will have our first annual Holiday Party and Awards Ceremony at Pepin Restaurant in St. Petersburg.  Details are below.

We have news and announcements about your opportunity to become an SPRR Board member, a FREE 5K and 10K Training Clinic, a volunteer and fundraising opportunity at the Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, and the SPRR Racing Series. You can read about these events and more below.

Oh, I should also mention that we are now selling SPRR racing singlets.  See below for more information and where to purchase your new singlet.

Several members have also been participating in Mike Master's Boot Camp and asked me to give details in case you are interested in joining them.  They are really having a great time and getting into even better shape. Mike's Boot Camp take place on Mondays and Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm and Tuesdays and Thursday mornings at 6:30 am at Upham Beach Seaside Grill Parking Lot in St. Pete Beach. The cost is only $5.00 per session. I understand that you need to bring water, a mat and towel.  If you want to contact Mike, his email is Michael.Masters1@us.army.mil.

If you have not renewed your membership or not joined SPRR and would like to so, please click the join button for a membership application.

As always, please visit our website!

Sincerely,

Eric Sager

Volunteers Needed for an Aid Station at the Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater

Every fall many of the world's greatest tri athletes assemble to compete at the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 held in Clearwater, Florida.  This year the race will be held on November 8th.  As one of the local running clubs that promotes exercise in our society, the SPRR has decided to take this opportunity to not only fundraise for our club but also to get involved with the race by managing one of the aid stations along the course.

In order for our club to be successful with this opportunity we are seeking the volunteer help of at least 50 to 60 individuals who will be available between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm on the race day, November 8, 2008.

Please consider helping as this is a wonderful opportunity for our club. As a non-profit organization the club treasury will receive a donation if we can get the volunteers. If you decide to volunteer please email Ben Fudge by the first week of October at bfudge62@earthlink.net with your name and t-shirt size. You are also welcome to bring friends who are not club members.
SPRR Racing Series
Last year we introduced the SPRR Racing Series, and are planning this year's Series for the upcoming racing season. Tentative details are provided below and are dependent of approval by the Board of Directors.

The St. Pete Road Runners' Racing Series (the "Series") is a collection of 12 events that will take place during 6 Tampa Bay area races. During each event, SPRR members can earn points based on age-graded scoring. For an explanation of age-graded scoring, click here. The points will be totaled at the end of the Series and the top three male and female runners with the highest point totals will be awarded prizes for their accomplishments.

The purpose of the Series is to determine the "best" runners during the racing season, encourage race directors to provide quality races, and promote club participation at these races. The Series includes races of multiple distances (5K to Marathon) over a period of several months to ensure the Series does not favor individuals that excel at a particular distance or time of the year.
