SPRR July Newsletter
Quick Links

Greetings!

July saw the first race organized and hosted by SPRR, and it was a huge success! We had over 150 participants finish the race, and Ali Crabb and Wes Reynolds (SPRR member) were the overall female and male winners, respectively. Afterwards everyone enjoyed the free music, food, beverages, and raffle prizes. Thanks to the runners, sponsors, and volunteers. We could not have done it without you. We hope to see everyone again at the August 8 race.

We should mention that SPRR member Wes Reynolds was the overall winner of our Series race, and he has also won the first 2 races of the Pier 60 Series. Congratulations Wes! SPRR is going international. Albert Wieringa visited Costa Rica recently and participated in a couple of races while there. Albert did very well and placed in his age category in both races! SPRR members can find their race results below.

Are you looking to run a race in the near future?  Check out the race calendar in this newsletter.  We have included upcoming races for the end of July and August. The race calendar will also be posted on the web soon.

Another race option is the Ragnar Relay. It's not too late to join SPRR's team. Information is provided in the newsletter.

I also want to mention that we have received a new order of SPRR technical t-shirts, and we have both long and short sleeve. Yes, I know that it is hard to think about running in a long sleeve shirt right now, but they will go quickly.

Check out the SPRR sponsors at the bottom of the newsletter. The list is growing, and they offer a bunch of great services. If you are interested in sponsoring SPRR, please contact Bill Castleman at bcastleman@tampabay.rr.com.

If you have not renewed your membership or not joined SPRR and would like to so, please click the join button for a membership application.

As always, please visit our website!

Sincerely,

Eric Sager

The 2008 Myomed Ragnar Relay Florida Race - An Event to Remember

What would make you want to be part of a 12 person team running across Florida? The camaraderie? The feeling of accomplishment? To be the first among your friends to run across Florida? Your competitive nature? All of the above? Whatever your goal, you can be sure that joining the SPRR team to run the Myomed Ragnar Relay on November 14th and 15th will be an unforgettable adventure.

The Ragnar Relay will be a challenging 191 mile course starting in Clearwater, crossing the state and ending in Daytona Beach. A team of 12 will each run three, 3 to 8 mile legs of the course. And, don't let the word "race" scare you away. While there are time limits (about 35 hours to run the entire race) for the Ragnar, it is by no means only for elite athletes. It's a 191 mile team building, sleep deprived, fun run and party!

If you are interested in being on our team or to be a volunteer, please email to: Sunny sunnyl@tampabay.rr.com or Tracey tekiser@yahoo.com co-captains of our team (no name yet?). Oh, and we need a team name, too. Something that works well with SPRR.

Let us know your typical training routine (eg. how many miles you run daily/weekly) and your average mile time, if known. If you have run a 5K or 10K recently, please include the race name and your finish time in the email.

Please visit the Ragnar Relay website for more details. Deadline for registration is July 15th.
Marathon and Half-Marathon Training Clinic
The SPRR Marathon and Half-Marathon Training Clinic is under way, but you can still sign up!  Clinic participants will be running the Marathon and Half Marathon of the Palm Beaches, which is scheduled for December 7, 2008.  If you are interested, please contact Ben Fudge at bfudge62@earthlink.net.

Clinic Benefits

1. Personalized training program for each participant. Each runner's training program will be developed based on that runner's individual goals and abilities. We will NOT be using a generalized training program from a web site, book, or magazine.

2. Organized group runs and speed work sessions.

3. The support you need to achieve your race goal.

This will also be a great opportunity for you to meet people with similar interest and that share a common love for the sport of running.
