Greetings!
You just received a newsletter a couple of weeks ago, but so much is happening that I wanted to send a second newsletter this month.
First, summer is approaching quickly and the temperature and humidity are rising. Therefore, SPRR has decided to start our Saturday and Sunday group runs a little earlier. Both the Saturday run from Fit for Life and the Sunday run at Ft. DeSoto will begin at 6:30 AM starting May 24 and May 25, respectively.
Next, the first race of the SPRR Summer 5K Series will take place on Friday, June 6 at 7PM. You can now register online, so it will be easier for you and your friends to register for this race or the entire Series. More information on the Series and links to register for the races are below. You may have received an email blast about the race from Motion Sports Management or you may have seen the add in Florida Race Place.
The speaker series continues at the monthly SPRR meetings. The next meeting will take place at 6:30 PM on Thursday, June 12. Lauri Reynolds will be discussing core strengthening and running.
Here's something exciting and fun. SPRR will be fielding a team to run the Ragnar Relay from Clearwater to Daytona Beach. Sunny L'Heureux will be organizing the event, so take the time to read about it below.
It's not too late to contact Tom Haight and start swimming with the Bardmoor Aquatic Team (BAT). He is offering coaching to any club members at a discounted rate. Also, if you have any children that may be interested in joining BAT, he will let them try it out for no charge.
Read about these events and more in the second edition of the May newsletter.
If you have not renewed your membership or not joined SPRR and would like to so, please click the join button for a membership application.
As always, please visit our website!
Sincerely,

Eric Sager St. Pete Road Runners E-News Editor |

| The 2008 Myomed Ragnar Relay Florida Race - An Event to Remember |
|
What would make you want to be part of a 12 person team running across Florida? The camaraderie? The feeling of accomplishment? To be the first among your friends to run across Florida? Your competitive nature? All of the above? Whatever your goal, you can be sure that joining the SPRR team to run the Myomed Ragnar Relay on November 14th and 15th will be an unforgettable adventure.
The Ragnar Relay will be a challenging 191 mile course starting in Clearwater, crossing the state and ending in Daytona Beach. A team of 12 will each run three, 3 to 8 mile legs of the course. And, don't let the word "race" scare you away. While there are time limits (about 35 hours to run the entire race) for the Ragnar, it is by no means only for elite athletes. It's a 191 mile team building, sleep deprived, fun run and party!
If you are interested in being on our team or to be a volunteer, please email to: Sunny sunnyl@tampabay.rr.com or Tracey tekiser@yahoo.com co-captains of our team (no name yet?). Oh, and we need a team name, too. Something that works well with SPRR.
Let us know your typical training routine (eg. how many miles you run daily/weekly) and your average mile time, if known. If you have run a 5K or 10K recently, please include the race name and your finish time in the email.
Please visit the Ragnar Relay website for more details. Deadline for registration is July 15th. |
| Swim with Bardmoor Aquatic Team |
|
Tom Haight is a member of the SPRR Board of Directors and a swim coach for the Bardmoor Aquatic Team. He is offering coaching and practice sessions for anyone interested.
The Bardmoor Aquatic Team (BAT) will practice on a daily basis (except Sundays) starting on Monday, June 9 and continuing until Friday, July 18. Practices for triathletes will be 7:00-8:30 am or 4:00-6:00 pm; there will be no afternoon practices on days of swim meets (see the team's web site, batswim.com). Practices Saturdays will be from 7:00-9:00 am.
Cost for SPRR members is $20 a month ($30 for non-members) for workouts along side the BAT swim team members. Make checks payable to Tom Haight or cash in an envelope.
BAT swims at the Bardmoor Golf & Tennis complex, about a mile from the intersection of Bryan Dairy Rd. and Starkey Rd. in Largo. Two entrances off Starkey and one off Bryan Dairy wind back to the complex.
Any members who's children might be interested in joining BAT (ages 5-18) are welcome to try out at their convenience at no charge.

| Congratulations and Thank You |
Michael Seimetz and Debi Havens were web on Sunday, May 20. They are the first two members of SPRR to marry and we want to say congratulations! To celebrate their wedding, Michael and Debi donated $300 to SPRR, and the club thanks you! If you see Mr. and Mrs Seimetz tell them congratulations and thank you. | |
| Marathon and Half-Marathon Training Clinic |
The SPRR Marathon and Half-Marathon Training Clinic is under way, but you can still sign up! Clinic participants will be running the Marathon and Half Marathon of the Palm Beaches, which is scheduled for December 7, 2008. If you are interested, please contact Ben Fudge at bfudge62@earthlink.net.
Clinic Benefits
1. Personalized training program for each participant. Each runner's training program will be developed based on that runner's individual goals and abilities. We will NOT be using a generalized training program from a web site, book, or magazine.
2. Organized group runs and speed work sessions.
3. The support you need to achieve your race goal.
This will also be a great opportunity for you to meet people with similar interest and that share a common love for the sport of running.
