SPRR Monthly Meeting
The next SPRR club meeting will be held at 6:30 PM on Thursday, May 8 at The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast Service Center. The Hospice service center is used for administrative purposes only. It is a new building with great facilities. Join members to discuss recent happenings and upcoming club events. After the meeting, we can re-adjourn at Fergs for a bite to eat and a beverage.

This months guest speaker will be yoga instructor Maurenn Ahern.

Yoga instructor Maureen Ahern has been running for as long as she can remember. She says she likes to run for her health, not to beat personal records or win medals. She completed her first marathon in January at Walt Disney World, with the help of Team in Training. The day after the marathon she taught two yoga classes - pain free.

It's her yoga practice, Maureen says, and that helps keep her injury free. The combination of breathing, holding poses, and relaxing are a perfect complement for running.

Maureen is relatively new at teaching yoga. Four years ago she left a rewarding - but stressful - job as a newspaper reporter. A strong believer in living a healthy lifestyle, she jumped into the fitness field, becoming an ACE-certified personal trainer. But it wasn't long before yoga became her passion after discovering its many benefits.

Two years ago, Maureen received a Level One certification from YogaFit, a San Diego-based company that trains people how to teach yoga. She currently is attending a teacher-training program at Living Room Yoga in St. Petersburg to earn her 200-hour certification from Yoga Alliance.

Maureen teaches both private and public classes.

Water Stop at St. Anthony's Triathlon
Would you like to help raise $500 for SPRR?

A representative of St. Anthony's has contacted SPRR and asked us to host a water stop, and they will give the club $500 if we are able to guarantee 24+ volunteers during the race on Sunday, April 27. The water stop will be at approximately the 2 mile point of the run portion of the course and will be located at the intersection of Brightwaters Blvd. NE and Aranda St. NE. The shift time is from approximately 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM. More details will be forthcoming on individual time requirements.

We had approximately this many members volunteer for the water stop at Max Bayne, and everyone had a great time.  Let's mobilize our forces again.  I'm sure this will be as much fun, if not more. In addition, we can raise some needed money for SPRR.

If you are interested, please email Ben Fudge at bfudge62@earthlink.net.

SPRR Annual Picnic
Thanks to everyone that attended the SPRR Annual Picnic!

SPRR t-shirt

The annual SPRR picnic took place on Saturday, April 12 at Ft. DeSoto Park, North Beach, Shelter #2. The picnic was open to members, family, and friends. I did not count each person, but I know that over 50 people attended the picnic. We even had 2 new members join the club!  Please thank the social committee (Sheryl Aimanovich, Debi Havens, and Gail Linton) for a job well done.

Prior to the meeting, Jack Keefe hosted a trail run through the park. Everyone that joined Jack for the run had a great time. If you were not able to participate in the trail run, don't worry. I'm sure that it will be offered again next year.

Marathon and Half-Marathon Training Clinic
The SPRR Marathon and Half-Marathon Training Clinic is under way, but you can still sign up!  Clinic participants will be running the Marathon and Half Marathon of the Palm Beaches, which is scheduled for December 7, 2008.  If you are interested, please contact Ben Fudge at bfudge62@earthlink.net.

Clinic Benefits

1. Personalized training program for each participant. Each runner's training program will be developed based on that runner's individual goals and abilities. We will NOT be using a generalized training program from a web site, book, or magazine.

2. Organized group runs and speed work sessions.

3. The support you need to achieve your race goal.

This will also be a great opportunity for you to meet people with similar interest and that share a common love for the sport of running.

On the Road - SPRR Racing Results
Thanks to everyone that submitted their or another members racing results. Please submit your results to Albert Wieringa so everyone knows how your hard work is paying off.
