As part of our 10th anniversary celebration, the Center for Urban Education (CUE) is hosting an Open House and Art Exhibit Reception on Tuesday, February 16th, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Waite Phillips Hall 702.
Please join us for a tour of the powerful art exhibit, "Cerca de la Cerca - Near the Border Fence" and meet Mexican-born photographer María Teresa Fernández. CUE Co-Directors Estela Mara Bensimon and Alicia C. Dowd will also be present to answer any questions regarding the parallels between CUE's work, which breaks down barriers that stand in the way of underrepresented students and immigration.
The exhibit documents life and death along the U.S.-Mexico border fence, which keeps growing not only in height but in length. The barrier begins in the Pacific Ocean, a couple of hundred feet from the shore, and stretches about 60 miles inland past El Centro, California. An article about the exhibit was published in the Los Angeles Times.
