| "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God ... It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same."
~Marianne Williamson, from A Return to Love: Reflections
on the Principles of "A Course in Miracles"

Tenth Principle of Creation Spirituality:
The basic work of God is compassion and we, who are all original blessings and sons and daughter of the Divine, are called to compassion. We acknowledge our shared interdependence; we rejoice at one another's joys and grieve at one another's sorrows and labor to heal the causes of those sorrows.

COMMUNITY DIALOGUES
ON MARYLAND'S BALLOT INITIATIVES
Are you tired of the negative tone of this political season yet realize important decisions will be made in November that affect you and our whole community? Then take part in Community Dialogues, "respectful conversations" about three upcoming ballot questions on three Thursdays from 7-9 pm:
Ballot Question 7 Expanding Gambling October 4 Ballot Question 6 Marriage Equality October 18 Ballot Question 4 Dream Act November 1
Venue: Annapolis Friends Meeting, 351 Dubois Rd., Annapolis Time: from 7-9 pm
Agenda: Presenters from each side will briefly state their case, followed by a few questions for clarification--no debate. The rest of the evening will focus on small-group facilitated discussions about what is important to you regarding that ballot question and what concerns or fears you may have.
The goal: for regular citizens with varying viewpoints to discuss important political and social issues in a civil manner--listening deeply to and learning from one another. No one will pressure you to vote a certain way.
Sponsors: Greater Annapolis Interfaith Network, Annapolis Friends Peace & Justice Center, and Community Forum of Annapolis.

Here's what the ballot will say for Question 6:
"Establishes that Maryland's civil marriage laws allow gay and lesbian couples to obtain a civil marriage license, provided they are not otherwise prohibited from marrying; protects clergy from having to perform any particular marriage ceremony in viola- tion of their religious beliefs; affirms that each religious faith has exclusive control over its own theological doctrine regarding who may marry within that faith; and provides that religious organizations and certain related entities are not required to provide goods, services, or benefits to an individual related to the celebration or promotion of marriage in violation of their religious beliefs."
VOTE YES ON QUESTION 6.
It will uphold Maryland's Civil Marriage Protection Act, which allows same-sex couples to obtain marriage licenses. When upheld, this law will go into effect on January 1, 2013.
