From Marylanders For Marriage Equality

Together we made history last week when Governor Martin O'Malley signed marriage equality into law. Clergy and faith communities played an unprecedented role in this legislative campaign and we know we would not have been successful without your inspiration, passion and activism. THANK YOU! Maryland is now the 8th state in the nation, plus the District of Columbia, to enact such groundbreaking legislation. Yet our work is still not done. We must protect marriage equality in Maryland. Please join Marylanders for Marriage Equality (www.marylandersformarriageequality.org) at one of our "Next Steps Community Meetings" to learn about the upcoming campaign and what you can do to help ensure we protect marriage.

We know opponents of marriage equality are already working on repeal efforts. Faithful voices will remain critical to protecting marriage equality as we go forward. As such, we are in the process of arranging an additional "Next Steps Community Meeting" specific to the faith community - for both clergy and lay leaders - to get your input and guidance as we move forward with the campaign. For now, however, we wanted to make you aware of the meetings happening across the state this and next week: these gatherings are open to all, please forward the details to your congregation, colleagues, friends, family and all other concerned Marylanders for marriage equality.

Bridges to the World:

International Film Festival

A FREE Activity Suggested by Beth Lanier

World Artists Experiences and the International Division of Maryland's Office of the Secretary of State, in conjunction with Frostburg University, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, Salisbury University, and Towson University, invite the public to attend free screenings of five international films, one each from Austria, Brazil, Japan, Sri Lanka, and Turkey.  The Bridges to the World International Film Series is a statewide, month-long initiative in recognition of the State's global reach and a reflection of those connections here in Maryland.

The series will run for five weeks from February 13 through March 16 at five venues throughout the state and will feature films chosen by the embassies of the respective countries.  Each film will be introduced, screened, and followed by a discussion.  Presentations begin at 7:00 p.m.  All films will be shown with English subtitles.
