An Opportunity for Interfaith Dialogue

Dr. Safi Kaskas has a grand vision: "Finding commonalities with others in order to promote peaceful cooperation - that Muslims, Christians and Jews join in solidarity to rehabilitate the role of religion in the world." One of his questions is "Do faith and religion have a future?"  He is eager to interact with the audience and answer any questions.

Dr. Kaskas is president of the Association of Muslim and Social Scientists in North America and is involved in addressing the role of human responsibilities and human rights; this could be a paradigm for Muslim activism in America - first established in the thought of classical America and classical Islam centuries ago.

Dr. Kaskas is a management executive and strategist with more than 40 years of experience - with an emphasis on planning, leadership and business ethics; particularly in corporate and academic worlds.  Some of his articles include, "Reconciliation, the Choice of Peacemakers," "The Role of Private Business in the Democratization Process of Saudi Arabia," "The Next 50 Years: Strategic Planning and Islamic Futures."

Bridges to the World:  International Film Festival

A FREE Activity Suggested by Beth Lanier

World Artists Experiences and the International Division of Maryland's Office of the Secretary of State, in conjunction with Frostburg University, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, Salisbury University, and Towson University, invite the public to attend free screenings of five international films, one each from Austria, Brazil, Japan, Sri Lanka, and Turkey.  The Bridges to the World International Film Series is a statewide, month-long initiative in recognition of the State's global reach and a reflection of those connections here in Maryland.

The series will run for five weeks from February 13 through March 16 at five venues throughout the state and will feature films chosen by the embassies of the respective countries.  Each film will be introduced, screened, and followed by a discussion.  Presentations begin at 7:00 p.m.  All films will be shown with English subtitles.
