So many times we are convinced that it is the "things" we have that make us thankful and not the "gifts" we were given which keep us thankful.
Patrick reminds me of this every day with his amazement of the "little" things in life that I sometimes overlook. This is why I love to take a walk in the woods with him, he points out the funny mushrooms, the caterpillars, a hole in a tree (that maybe a bear lives in), the good and bad smells that I might walk past, distracted by my own thoughts. The other day Patrick climbed in my car and while I was buckling his seat belt he told me "Look Grandpa, Fairies" (I thought some of my friends had
stopped by - LOL), he saw the dust reflected in the sunlight fluttering around the car and to him it looked like "Fairies" dancing. For a moment my thought centered on having to clean the car but then I thought how great that
even dust has a purpose. Patrick's smile was my gift. |
