Dear Friends,
mike overlooking Huayapam
We are south of the border once again!  We arrived in July and are settling in to our home in San Andres Huayapam, a Zapotec village, on the outskirts of Oaxaca City.

Beginning our third missionary term, we have been invited to mentor and teach Mexican nationals attending the Missionary and Cross Cultural Training Center in Oaxaca City.  On the same grounds is the Alpha Omega Bible Institute where Mike was given the privilege of teaching all five levels of Systematic Theology to students in ministerial training.  Ilona has been offered several opportunities of ministry and is prayerfully considering which one(s) to accept after the kids begin school.

"I Wish I Was Poor"      by Katie Hadinger, 8 yr. old MK

I'm learning to like it here because now things don't seem so strange. Even when I see the poor people on the streets now, I don't want to leave anymore. I told my dad on sunday night that I wish I was poor. He asked me, why? I said because then I can be friends with those poor people.
He told me that's how Jesus felt about us. He became poor so we could be his friend and He could save us from our sin. I never thought about that. But when I see those poor kids I want to say hi to them and play with them and be their friend so they can laugh and have fun too. I would even tell them about Jesus.

Praise / Prayer

Praise Reports:
  • Safe arrivals to Mexico!  Mike, with the boys, spent a total of 11 days on the road covering 5,022 miles without any major incidents on the road or during border crossings.
  • No major illnesses.  Although taking turns having Montezuma's revenge and re-acquainting our digestive system to Mexican food/drink, we have not had any severe reactions requiring medical attention.
  • Our son Michael, who stayed behind in the states, had an excellent host family to live with while interning at Harvest Ridge A/G, which he enjoyed tremendously.
Prayer Requests:
  • High School science teacher needed first semester at Oaxaca Christian School (this affects our two high schoolers, Joseph and Jonathan)
  • Positive working relationship developed with the district leadership of Oaxaca
  • Continual adaptation to southern Mexico culture
  • for our 8 yr. old, Katie, to re-aquaint herself to the Spanish language quickly
  • for Michael as he returns to VFCC this fall - safety, a good job on campus, finances
  • our family to be continually filled by the Holy Spirit with passion for the work
  • for the people of Oaxaca
  • healing of Mike's epilepsy
