Tarantas 2007 Cava Brut and La Cantina Pizzolato Fields Prosecco are perfect for
Valentine's Day
Tarantas Cava Brut, produced by Spain's oldest Estate Winery, Bodegas Iranzo,is elaborated with the three classical Cava grape varieties (organic Macabeu, Xarel·lo and Parellada) following the "champenoise method" and laid to rest for more than 9 months. The Cava is pale yellow, with small and constant bubbles. It's great for special for toasts, and romantic celebrations such as Valentine's Day. Its complex aroma is fruity (apple) with some spice notes. The softness gives a great elegance.
The August 2010 issue of Wine & Spirits magazine featured our Tarantas Cava Brut, with a rating of 90 points and listed as "One of the Year's Best Cava's." We have Wine & Spirits shelf talkers and will be happy to send as many as you would like for your marketing efforts.
Pizzolato Fields Prosecco is
made from 100% certified organic Prosecco Grapes. The grapes are handpicked and vinified using the Italian Charmat method, with temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel and secondary fermentation in sealed tanks for 30 days. The wine's color is pale straw-yellow with greenish tinges. The nose has a delicate, fruity characteristic, and the taste is well-orchestrated, palatable and pleasant. Prosecco is ideal as an aperitif, dessert or holiday toast, as well as with a snack, or served with cold first courses including seafood and light pasta dishes. This wine won a Gold Medal at the 2008 Denver International Wine Competition and was rated an 88 by
Wine & Spirits magazine.

"Pizzolato Fields Prosecco comes to us from the Veneto region of Italy. The sparkling wine is made from organic grapes that are certified by BIOS, an Italian organic certification body. The grapes are 100% prosecco (but are not from the region of the same name). Prosecco is Italy's answer for sparkling wine. It differs from the Method Chamagnoise, in that secondary fermentation takes place in the tank (rather than the bottle) - called Charmot Method. This wine is creamy with fruity notes of peach, lime, lemon. It is crisp, dry and refreshing with bright acidity. All is in balanced in the glass, leading to fullness in the mouth and a clean finish. Perfect brunch, cocktails and with olives! Great value. 89 points."

Greetings!
We are now full swing into red wine season and we couldn't be happier with where things are going in 2011:
- Wine experts predict that organic wines will remain strong in 2011 and in fact become more mainstream as more wineries discover that organically grown grapes produce superior wines.
- A recent Spanish study concluded that wines made with organically grown grapes contain higher levels of antioxidants. We have always believed this to be true, but now we have conclusive evidence that we can share with consumers.
- We have several new certified organic NSA offerings on the way in 2011. Through our partners at L de Lagarde in France, Bodegas Iranzo in Spain, and La Cantina Pizzolato in Italy, we will be able to offer more NSA choices for consumers.
We thank you as always for your support and welcome your comments or questions. A toast to another stellar year!
Sincerely,
Edward Field Natural Merchants

Organic Wine Defined
Organic wine is made from the same grapes, in the same regions and in the same way that wine has been made for thousands of years. The only thing missing is the chemical residue sometimes left over from conventional grape growing.

Spanish Study Shows Organic Wine Contains more Antioxidants
A recent Spanish study, completed with assistance by one of our winery partners, Bodegas Iranzo, found that wines made from organic grapes contain more natural antioxidants. Researchers from School of Agricultural Engineering and Natural Habitats (ETSIAMN) of the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (UPV) conducted the study in conjunction with several wineries in the Valencia region. The findings were presented at the Second Symposium of Quality and Organic Food Industry: Viticulture and Rural Development held in Spain.
Study coordinator, María Dolores Saigon said "...wine made with organic grapes is more beneficial to human health since it provides a greater amount of polyphenols-antioxidants that prevent aging." This is the second Spanish study that indicates a higher level of antioxidants can be found in organic grapes. The first was published in January 2005 in the Journal of Food Science. This is a significant study that shows a strong indication that organic wines are healthier than conventional. While we have always believed that grapes grown without the use of pesticides are naturally better for your body, this is another fantastic piece of research that shows a secondary health benefit. |
