90 Points

The August 2010 issue of Wine & Spirits magazine featured our Tarantas Cava Brut, with a rating of 90 points and listed as "One of the Year's Best Cava's."

Tarantas Cava Brut, produced by Spain's oldest Estate Winery, Bodegas Iranzo,is elaborated with the three classical Cava grape varieties (organic Macabeu, Xarelˇlo and Parellada) following the "champenoise method" and laid to rest for more than 9 months. The Cava is pale yellow, with small and constant bubbles. It's great for special for toasts, celebrations and light meals. Its complex aroma is fruity (apple) with some spice notes. The softness gives a great elegance.

We have Wine & Spirits shelf talkers and will be happy to send as many as you would like for your marketing efforts.

Spartico Organic Tempranillo is made from Spain's most prominent and popular Tempranillo grape without the addition of any sulfites during production. What is Certified Organic NSA Wine?
All wines in the Natural Merchant's catalogue are Made with Organically Grown Grapes, but most have a small amount of sulfites. Wines labeled as "Certified Organic" must contain no added sulfites and any naturally-occurring sulfite levels must be under 10 parts per million (ppm).

Sulfur dioxide, a compound formed from sulfur and oxygen, occurs naturally during fermentation in small quantities. Bodegas Iranzo has developed proprietary methods to ensure the wines' stability as well as outstanding vintages.

L de Lagarde Bordeaux Rouge
Silver Medal & Best Buy
La Cantina Pizzolato 2009 NSA, Merlot

Deep bright ruby color with a violet cast. Rich aromas of chocolate covered toasted coconut, grilled and herb marinated peppers, and strawberry-grape liqueur are very obliquely reminiscent of reposado tequila and follow through on a supple, silky entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body with notes of tart apples, clay, and pencil shavings. Finishes with a long, crisp and refreshing finish. A great sipper or table wine to serve with grilled fare.

La Cantina Pizzolato (Italy) 2009 NSA Rosso Convento
Rich aromas of dried berries, oily marzipan, and coconut flakes. Polished wood and marinated okra nuances on the dryish medium-bodied palate with a pithy finish. A bit esoteric, but food friendly acidity keeps everything in check and well working for the table.

La Cantina Pizzolato (Italy) Pinot Grigio
Pale golden color with a minute amber cast. Aromas of nectarine, graham cracker, and faint grassy mint follow through on a soft entry to a dryish light-to-medium body with a drying lemon rind and apple core accented finish.
Adieu Louis Delhon
Louis DelhonLouis Delhon, one of the leading pioneers of the French organic viticulture passed away on June 22 at the young age of 53 in his hometown of Puissalicon, in Languedoc-Roussillon.

This is a huge loss to France's Organic Viticulture community as Louis was one of the founders of the movement.  He was dear friend of Natural Merchants and we send our condolences to his family. His son Francois will continue his legacy with the Domaine Bassac label wines.

Greetings!

Natural Merchants LogoAs our producers are in the heart of wine harvest (such as our friends at Biokult in Austria shown in the photo above) it's time to celebrate the kickoff of the 2010 wine season. We have a lot of exciting news to share about our portfolio this month and the state of the organic wine industry.

Studies show that worldwide organic wine continues to maintain consumption rates despite economic adversity.

"...ever since the US implemented its Organic Law in 2002 to accredit these products, organic wine consumption has also grown by 20 percent per year.... In the US, organic wine sales represent close to $26 billion per year.."

That's great news for all of us, and especially our consumers who continue to look for affordable organic wine options in the market. The future continues to be bright for organic wine, and we will continue to search the world for the very best organic offerings.

As always, we look forward to your feedback and suggestions.

Sincerely,
Agrinatura Chardonnay

Today's Bordeaux - L de Lagarde, Bordeaux Red, 2009 by Rob Moshein
Rated by an independent jury of US wine professionals as one of the 100 affordable, contemporary Bordeaux (priced from $8 to $35) in 2010. Crowdpleasing style. Ripeness upfront, followed by hint of earth. Lush fruit, smooth, easygoing structure. Roast chicken or pasta.

L' de Lagarde, Bordeaux AOC
This week it was a juicy and pretty organically grown red Bordeaux that was a joy to drink. The moment  juicy, plump, and well structured wine that convinced me to always try everything. Even though I taste more dogs than not it is always worth it to find a wine like the 2007 L'de Lagarde. It has EVERYTHING one would want out of a young red Bordeaux that is ready to drink.

Introducing Updated Labels for Two
Cantina Pizzolato Wines

We are introducing two new styles from our partners at La Cantina Pizzolato: Pizzolato Fields Prosecco Veneto and Pizzolato Pinot Grigio.

Pizzolato Fields Pinot Grigio is pale golden in color with caramelized pistachios and honeyed green pear aromas. The wine has a soft entry to a dryish light-to-medium body with tangy baked apple and kiwi notes. This informal style of wine works well for light fall lunches and dinners.

Pizzolato Fields Prosecco Veneto has a pale straw
Cabcolor, with nougat and peach custard aromas. The sparkling wine has a crisp entry to a dryish light-to-medium body with baked apple and delicate spice accents.

The wines were developed by Settimo Pizzolato, a 5th generation winemaker. La Cantina Pizzolato estate is located in the rich and flourishing countryside in the north of Treviso, Italy.
