We are pleased to announce that the August 2010 issue of Wine & Spirits magazine will feature our Tarantas Cava Brut, rated a 90 and listed as "One of the Year's Best Cavas."

Tarantas Cava Brut,Tarantas Cava produced by Spain's oldest Estate Winery, Bodegas Iranzo,is elaborated with the three classical Cava grape varieties (organic Macabeu, Xarel·lo and Parellada) following the "champenoise method" and laid to rest for more than 9 months. The Cava is pale yellow, with small and constant bubbles. It's great for special for toasts, celebrations and light meals. Its complex aroma is fruity (apple) with some spice notes. The softness gives a great elegance.

L de Lagarde Wines Shine
Bordeaux
The Bordeaux Wine Council will host its Fifth Annual Top 100 Bordeaux promotion in the fall, presenting 100 classic, contemporary and affordable Bordeaux wines throughout stores in New York, Boston, Miami, Seattle and San Francisco. These 100 classic, contemporary and affordable wines were selected from hundreds of wines nominated by importers across the U.S. In December 2009, an independent expert jury sampled all entries in a blind tasting and selected the very best of Bordeaux for their Top 100 promotion. L DE LAGARDE has the honor of being the only wine made with organic grapes to be selected for this prestigious national promotion.

The L de Lagarde wines were also recently featured in San Francisco and Washington DC at the French Wine Connection show for industry trade and media.

This is all part of a nation-wide promotion in coordination with Natura
l Merchants and the French Trade Bureau.

The Award-Winning Wi
nes of Vignobles Raymondare grown in Entre-Deux-Mers in the Bordeaux region of France. The family property of the domaine du Château de Lagarde has been built up over the years by successive generations. Today, in order to look after their heritage, they carry on using a special mixture of ancestral tradition and the most efficient technology.

Because of winemaker Lionel Raymond's strong beliefs and respect of environment and terroir, he converted the entire vineyard (321 acres) to certified organic agriculture.  L DE LAGARDE is one of very few organic winery initiatives in France, and is the most important ecological project by a French winery. Not only are the vineyards organic, but there is also close to an acre of green
buildings on the land. The winery employs many energy conserving and ecologically friendly practices throughout production. Click here to see a new video about their green project.

Greetings!

Is organic wine really free of sulfites?

Natural Merchant's Note: USDA Certified Organic No Sulfites Added wines are just that-they have no added sulfites. All wines contain some naturally occurring sulfites, so no wine can be labeled as truly sulfite free.

President's Cancer Panel: Organic foods reduce environmental risks

As reported by the Organic Trade Association, "The President's Cancer Panel Report released on May 6 exhorts consumers to choose food grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizer, antibiotics, and growth hormones to help decrease their exposure to environmental chemicals that can increase their risk of contracting cancer. Organic products avoid the use of these chemicals."

"Exposure to pesticides can be decreased by choosing, to the extent possible, food grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers...Similarly, exposure to antibiotics, growth hormones, and toxic run-off from livestock feed lots can be minimized by eating free-range meat raised without these medications," according to the landmark report, "Reducing Environmental Cancer Risk: What We Can Do Now," submitted to President Obama by Dr. LaSalle Leffall, Jr., an oncologist and professor of surgery at Howard University, and Dr. Margaret L. Kripke, an immunologist at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

"Organic production and processing is the only system that uses certification and inspection to verify that these chemicals are not used on the farm all the way to our dinner tables," said Christine Bushway, Executive Director of the Organic Trade Association (OTA).
