Tarantas Scores Big
National wine expert the "Denver Wine Guy" Keith Miller recently gave Tarantas Tempranillo/Cabernet Crianza 89 points and rated it a Best Buy. Following is an excerpt from the review but you can read the whole thing by clicking here.

Tarantas

"It's fresh and can I say very beautiful...For a wine under $15 this is a major case buy. It will age well for a good 4-6 years...Good balance and structure when it comes to tannin and acidity on the palate along with the cherry, slight cranberry, caramel, bit of pit, little stem, spice and minerality. SOLID WINE!!! OK this wine impressed me a lot and it will be a 90pt wine in a couple years. The winemaker did a great job here that is for sure. All Organically Grown Grapes!!! We love that, right? Be nice to the land and it will give back ten fold and here is an example of that in a big way."

Things We Love
Cook Eat Think

We recently came across a blog called
Cook.Eat.Think, written by Professional Mom Denise. She had some wonderful things to say about organic wine:

Organic and biodynamic wines are very available nowadays - even in the aisles of many supermarkets. Buying wine made using organic grapes, grown biodynamically, and/or from vintners using sustainable agriculture practices means that not only are you steering clear of any nasty pesticides, but also supporting a more human and earth healthy business. And if you can find an organic wine made locally? Bigger bonus!

"With grapes topping the list of the most chemically "sprayed" (with insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and other nasty "cides") categories of produce on the market today, it is no wonder that many are seeking an organic alternative to their conventional wines. Tides are certainly turning as more vintners are discovering that the common-sense approach to both organic and biodynamic growing methods, results in not only "healthier" vines, but in wines with greater flavor..."

Thanks Denise!
Greetings!

Meet the Grower-Raymond Bordeaux

Lionel Raymond

Lionel Raymond, Raymond Bordeaux, France

WE LOVE OUR SOIL, YOU'LL LOVE OUR WINE, IT'S ONLY NATURAL...

The family property of the domaine du Château de Lagarde has been built up over the years by successive generations.Today, in order to look after our heritage, we propose to carry on using a special mixture of ancestral tradition and the most efficient technology.

In 2000, we tend to believe that it was fate which made Lionel Raymond purchase Château Joumes Fillon (an organic vineyard). Because of Lionel's strong beliefs in the respect of environment and the terroir he decided to convert the whole vineyard (130 hectares) to organic agriculture.  It was a quite a bet, and most winemakers in the area thought he was pretty crazy. It is twice the work of a conventional vineyard.

Located in the Entre-Deux-Mers, not far from Bordeaux, our wines have grown in the villages of Saint-Laurent-du-Bois, Saint-Martial, Saint-Felix de Conclude since medieval times.
The different properties of the domaine benefit specific conditions: special orientation of the vineyards, composition of the soil, humidity, age of the vines...These conditions are refined during the winemaking allowing us to offer you a large range of products.

Lionel Raymond

Over 20 people work in the vineyard and the cellars, and consistently looking for innovative techniques in terms of production, vinification with respect for the vines, soil and environment.

What makes the main difference in the wine produced by organic agriculture, is the word "respect": respect of the soil, on which the vine is planted, respect of the vine, respect of the organic methods, and all of this for the respect of the environment and the respect of the consumer. Our wines reflect our "savoir-faire".
