Greetings!
There are four kids in the photo above--three grinning at the camera and one covered in, yes, toilet paper,in an imitation of the mummies around them at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's part of the museum's "It's Time We Met" social media and ad campaign, which invited visitors to snap themselves alongside works in the museum--with some fun results. Check out the link at right, below, about using your location to advantage in social media to find out more.
Summer's found me wrapped up in speaking to the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce on social media for business; Washington Women in Public Relations on women and public speaking; and lots of Facebook fans for our new Eloquent Woman presence there. Let me know if you're seeking a speaker or need advice on strategies, training or content to reach your communications goals!
Sincerely,

Live-Tweeting at Meetings Gets Controversial
Figure Out Your Strategy for Allowing Twitter at Conferences |
The most popular post on the don't get caught blog this month looked at the uncomfortable ways some organizations are trying to limit attendees' use of Twitter during conference sessions -- from outright limits to suggested "courtesy guidelines" and questions about etiquette. I shared three perspectives from speakers, attendees and a professional journal with thoughts on how you might respond. Another post this month looked at a case study that's taking a positive approach: The Communications Network in Philanthropy is organizing a squad of attendees to tweet, blog and make video at its conference this coming October. I'll be on that team and will blog about the experience as well as the sessions. That led to one more post from guest Bob Finn, on the real rules for scientists about what they can disclose to reporters (and others) at conferences--something you can show to researchers when you want to cover their talks.

In Which We Find Those Eloquent Women
I'm happy to report that, one month into The Eloquent Woman's Facebook page, we're close to 900 fans -- women and men from all over the world who are looking for ways to step up their speaking. Entries in the Eloquent Woman's contest to win 15 weeks of online speaker coaching and a Flip camcorder are due this Friday, July 31, at midnight Eastern Time. In the meantime, the Eloquent Woman blog spent July examining ideas suggested by readers and Facebook fans (see box at left for links) and sharing inspiration from women speakers like Sonia Sotomayor, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Jill Granoff and Carol Smith. |
