Issue #29 April 2009
Greetings!

This month, I'm on a search for communications successes, large or small. Do you have a strategy, social media foray or message you want to share with my readers? Email me directly to have your success featured on my blog--either as a guest post from you or one from me. The same goes for public speaking or training successes.

Later this week and in May, look for me in Corvallis, Oregon, and Charleston, South Carolina, facilitating more of the Communicating Science series of workshops sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science; in Alexandria, Virginia, keynoting the annual meeting of the Construction Writers Association about social media for journalists and communicators in the building, architecture, infrastructure and related trades; and in New York City for the Science Writers in New York, talking about using social media for branding yourself or your organization.

I'm happy to meet up with you in any of these locations and hope to host a meetup in New York on Monday evening, May 11. If you're in town that evening, email me at info@dontgetcaught.biz for more details!

Sincerely,
President
The Weekly Writing Coach Returns:

20 Writing Tests, from Tweets to Talks

The more we expand our range as communicators, the more I'm convinced that writing's still and always the core skill that communicators need to keep fresh. That's why I'm reviving the don't get caught blog's "weekly writing coach" feature (see all the previous posts here) to coach, prod, cajole and most of all help communicators hone this vital talent.  This month, managers and writers alike should look at my list of 20 tests for communications or business writers--formats that any writer should master -- ranging from Twitter "tweets" and speeches to news releases and congressional testimony.  There's something to challenge seasoned and novice writers alike, and I've added some ways to step up several of these assignments. (I'd use this list if I were hiring writers for a communications or public affairs team today.)  If your writers (or writing team) needs coaching, email me at info@dontgetcaught.biz -- and send your questions or challenges so I can answer them on the blog!
