Greetings!
This month, we're all about thoughtful communications, from training thought leaders like scientists to using a retreat to think through your communications strategies. Here's more food for thought for woman speakers: You can register now for my next speaking engagement, "Take Your Next Speech from Good to Great: Speaker Secrets for Executive Women," March 10 at the Tower Club Tysons Corner, a joint presentation with speechwriter Jeff Porro. Check out our latest blog, The Eloquent Woman, for more tips and issues for women in public speaking.
Sincerely,

Training Scientists to Communicate
New Website, Training Sessions to Debut February 15 |
Some trainers shy away from teaching communications skills to scientists and engineers, but we have nearly 20 years of experience doing just that, with professionals in every discipline of science.
That's why we're proud that don't get caught has been selected to work with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, publisher of the journal Science, on its new initiative, Communicating Science: Tools for Scientists and Engineers. We're conducting communications training sessions this winter on campuses in California and North Carolina, to complement a new website that features training resources we helped to create. The new website debuts February 15 (warning: this link won't work until then!) and a special session at the AAAS annual meeting is planned that day to mark the new initiative.
More and more of our clients -- in corporations, universities, and nonprofits -- are asking for customized training sessions to help their scientists better present their work to sales teams, donors, community groups and investors. To give your scientists this competitive edge, email us at info@dontgetcaught.biz. |
Speaker Tip: When Your Hands Are At Rest
Keep Your Gesturing Hands Ready for Action |
Gesturing's one thing, but what do you do during a presentation or media interview when your hands are at rest? How do you hold them--and where? This month, we give you tips on where to place your arms and hands so that they:
- are ready for your next gesture;
- won't distract your audience;
- are visible if you're on camera;
- make you look relaxed and confident; and
- prevent verbal mistakes.
You'll find all our presentation tips here, and more about our workshops for groups or one-on-one presentation coaching here. |
For Communications Directors
Why Hold a Communications Retreat? |
This month, we share some of the considerations our clients take into account when planning a communications team retreat, from skills-building to strategic problem-solving. With extensive experience directing communications operations for national organizations, nonprofits and the federal government, we're ready to facilitate your team's next retreat. Tips for communications directors are a regular feature of our blog. |
