Psychic Perspective
by, MaryKay Winterstein
I recently watched the documentary movie Forks Over Knives. I highly recommend it. It is the new movie about healing our bodies and diseases with a whole foods, plant based diet. The information in this movie is staggering. It shows the dietary patterns of humans over time and how the increase of eating animal proteins (meat and dairy) is directly correlated to the increase of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. There is more than just a random connection between the two. There are some amazing studies and statistics to support this reality.
Now, I am not Vegan or a Vegetarian. I call myself a Flexatarian. I eat bacon or a burger when I feel it, but since I have turned forty, I have made some major nutritional changes. I had to. My body demanded it. My eating habits were horrible and guess what, Food Matters! The primary color I consumed was white; consisting of sugar, milk, butter, cheese and my body was paying for it. I did not eat fruits and vegetables on any consistence basis. In my mind, they were a garnish for "real food" like steak and potatoes. Boy was I wrong! I was introduced to juicing and my body has never been happier. I now consume more fruits and vegetables in a month than I previously did in a whole year. I have personally experienced the healing power of plants! I have never felt so good and been so healthy.
I had to detoxify my body and reset my pallet. I was so full of dairy and sugars, I had to saturate my body with live micronutrients to cleanse the cells, blood and organs. I juiced three times a day for ten days. I can't even begin to tell you how happy my body was to receive this fresh, live, healing juice. Fruits and vegetables are truly God's medicine. If you are interested in tying this for yourself, I recommend you check out Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead to inform and inspire you or anyone you love to add juicing into your life.
I now consume the colors of the rainbow through juicing. I juice and drink things I would never have eaten and it is absolutely delicious. So if you have a major body ailment, issue, or complaint, I encourage you to try eating a primarily whole foods, plant based diet. What does that mean exactly? In the simplest of terms, if it is a food that is grown from the earth, eat all you want of it. These are fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, beans, legumes, etc. If is a food that comes from something that walks on the earth (meat, dairy, eggs), eat it in moderation. What do you have to lose, your aches, pains, and lethargy?
Here is to a healthy October!
