What Do Employees Really Want????
|
|
This month's Everything DiSC Pulse article in Training Magazine focuses on employee compensation and job satisfaction.
Professionals were asked "What types of compensation are present in your current job?" and "What types of compensation would make your current job more satisfying?"
When asked what benefit or compensation would greatly increase their job satisfaction, better pay was by far #1. However, the benefits that ranked 2 - 6 suggest professionals also value growth. They want advancement, recognition, interesting work, learning new skills, and training opportunities.
In terms of predicting actual satisfaction, good pay ranked 15th on the list. Benefits and intrinsic rewards that are more related to satisfaction than good pay included the opportunity to contribute, use skills, and recognition. Organizations and managers can start to create a more satisfied workforce by helping people find meaning in their work.

All I Want is a Little Respect...

Imagine your company's energy if the majority of employees had this "I love my job" sign displayed on their desks!
The Training Magazine survey caused me to think about how we can create more respect for employees in this challenging economic climate and came up with this acronym.
R - Recognition for contributions E - Expectations clearly defined S - Strengths and Skills utilized P - Pleasant work environment E - Expression of ideas encouraged C - Creative and challenging opportunities T - Training to learn new skills
Many of you conduct year end performance reviews or just as an interesting exercise, you might want to ask your employees how important each of these items are to them and what you could do better to help them find more meaning and satisfaction in their jobs.

| Inspiration for your work and life |
|
This reflective nightly ritual will soothe your spirit, center your mind, make you happier about your life and work, and has even been known to cure insomnia.
Make a list of things you are grateful for - not abstract things like the moon and the stars but specific gifts. Here are a few gifts on my list tonight. My friend from CA called, the opportunity to help 3 clients, enjoyed a relaxing dinner with my husband, talked with my daughter, received support from 2 friends, found humor in our water damaged home situation, and I finished this Newsletter.
It reminds me of an old prayer. Count your blessings, name them one by one. And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
