Muscle Pain and Statins

Myalgia, defined as muscle pain, is the most common side effect of statin drugs, occurring with a frequency as high as 15% in some studies.
Any muscle area can be involved with the time of onset after the start of statin therapy being as short as a few weeks to several years on a fixed dose.
Weakness frequently co-exists. The pain intensity ranges from dull, nagging to excruciating and incapacitating, almost always aggravated by muscle use.
