"SEX ~ The Biggest Demon in Hell" On the radio show we've laid the foundation for conscious relationships, and now we're in a series of shows on "Relationship Issues." Our conversation last Sunday was about "Monogamy" -- What it means, how we can avoid assumptions and make clear agreements about our relationship intentions, and some ideas about the difference between emotional and sexual monogamy. "Relationship Issues: SEX ~ The Biggest Demon in Hell"
I borrowed the idea of "The Biggest Demon in Hell" from don Miguel Ruiz, author of The Four Agreements. And I think he is right! Our culture is so mixed up about sex, we don't know whether we're going or coming!
Our advertising is mostly sexy so we will buy products-- usually products not related to sex or the female in the ad. I saw a big ad for a car wax the other day, with a (as we say) scantily clad woman as the biggest image in the ad. Uh huh. Maybe if I wax my truck with that product I can have that woman? No thanks. And what about all those magazines on the rack at the supermarket? Whew!
And likewise our entertainment media is filled with sexuality (along with violence, of course). We all know this, but I share it to remind us of the background that influences and shapes our personal sexual lives.
I have worked with many people who are afraid to talk with their partner about their sensual/sexual needs, desires, discomforts, and fantasies. There is such a disconnect between what many people want and feel and what they are able to verbalize.
Does God want us to be sexual? How many sins are there on the Sin List related to sex? What fears have you inherited from your religion or family that keep you from accepting the truth of your being as a sexual animal? Are they true? What are you afraid of if you break the Sin Rules?
In the Toltec tradition that Miguel Ruiz brought to us in The Four Agreements and his other teachings, he defines "hell" as the state of mind filled with judgment and fear. He calls sex the "biggest demon in hell" because of all the judgment, fear, doubt, and conflict about sex that live in the minds of many people.

We can be free to be the sensual and sexual truth of who we are. "All" we need to do is break the many agreements we made a long time ago to not speak of our sexual needs, to turn the lights off, to not use the names of body parts involved, and to simply silently hope our needs will be fulfilled without asking or speaking out truth about them.
Speaking those truths is the foundation ofLiving in Conscious Relationship.

Let's talk about these issues in relationship, and learn to make agreements that are more conscious, clear, and that support love and acceptance of ourselves and each other. NOTE: This week' show will not be suitable for young children and most grandmothers!
