Welcome to the Joydancer Weekly Word and News.
Our focus at Joydancer at this time of year is our annual Summer Celebration of Life. I invite you to read this and a continuing series of newsletters sharing about the event, and hope you will join us this year for the best ever event celebrating Love, Life, and all things Sacred.
The theme of this year's Celebration is "Surrender, Transform, Transcend." Go here to read more about the Sixth Annual Summer Celebration of Life coming up August 13 ~ 15, 2010. I would very much like to see you here for this wonderful weekend!
The Weekly Word
Way back in 1995, Miguel Ruiz, author of The Four Agreements invited a group of we new apprentices to a gathering in a forest in the foothills of the Sierras in Northern California (along with other gatherings during that time, in Southern California and New Mexico).
He instructed us to bring a sword pendant to bless as a tool of power. It was a beautiful group, maybe about 30 of us, in a circle surrounding a small altar table and don Miguel. He talked about the two-edged sword; that can cut away illusions and lies to heal our minds, or that can cut to hurt and wound ourselves and each other.
He blessed the pendants, and they became a symbol of our dedication to being impeccable with our word ~ using our word, as the sword, for transformation and healing.

Don Miguel also presented us with his Circle of Fire Prayer -- a tool of transformation that became my guide and joy for many years. Please read about it at the same link, beginning here. The prayer has been published in the book, Prayers: A Communion with our Creator. I gave a talk on the prayer at a church service recently, so watch for the audio on Joydancer.com soon.
Every year for the next ten years following that first gathering we came together with don Miguel in sacred community called "The Circle of Fire." At first the circles were small, but after The Four Agreements was published(buy here), more and more people came to celebrate. As the gatherings became too large for Walker Creek Ranch here in northern California, they were moved to Monterey, Ca, and then to The Ranch in Tennessee.
As we were walking away from the lovely meadow at The Ranch after the 10th Circle of Fire weekend in 2004, someone close to don Miguel remarked to me, "That is probably the last Circle of Fire" (Miguel had suffered a major heart attack in 2002, and many things were changing). In that moment I looked up and saw, emblazoned across the sky as though by a sky-writing plane: "The Summer Celebration of Love."
I said, "I'll take care of it." When I got home from Tennessee I called Walker Creek Ranch where we had enjoyed many early Circles of Fire, and they said, "Oh, I'm sure we are all booked for next year, especially that weekend in August you liked to use-- but I'll look." When she returned to the phone, she expressed her surprise "That weekend is open!"
So, in August 2005, we hosted our first Joydancer Summer Celebration of Love. A couple of years later we changed the name to Summer Celebration of Life, which I like much better. This August 13~15 is our sixth annual celebration, making it 16 years since don Miguel Ruiz's inspiration to gather us in the forest and share with us his love and powerful prayer.
