The Stress Involved with Being an Overachiever

And what parents can do to help

There is no doubt that kids today experience more stress. Some of this is simply due tosleeping on books the faster pace of our society. Sometimes stress is due to family issues like divorce, substance abuse or violence. But more often what's stressing our kids these days is the race to be the best---- in school, sports, and standardized testing. Too many kids are coming to counselors and places like YES anxious, sleep deprived, depressed, and abusing alcohol or drugs. Here is some helpful information on what we can do as parents.

tulipsA Special Way to Honor Your Mother

Make a donation to YES in her name!

All mothers share the same hopes and dreams---- they want their children to be safe, happy and emotionally healthy. Every day, YES supports mothers to build positive relationships with their kids through our parent education and family counseling services.

This year, make it an extra special Mother's Day---- consider a donation in honor of your mother, or a special woman in your life, and we'll send her a Mother's Day card on your behalf. Click here to
complete the donation form, but don't delay, as all donations must be in by May 9th.

May is a time to honor mothers, and at YES we salute moms for all they do. We are glad to be a resource for moms and their children when it comes to parenting and emotional issues---- especially single moms, who head up 29% of families YES serves. May is also National Mental Health Month, an opportunity to raise awareness of mental health conditions and the importance of mental wellness for all. In America, about 1 in 10 children and 1 in 4 adults live with a treatable mental health condition. These disorders are the leading cause of disability in our country. YES is here to help kids who are impacted with emotional struggles like trauma, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and more. By helping kids early, we can make an impact on their future. If you know a child or family who is dealing with divorce, grief, abuse or other issue, remember YES helps all kids and their families, regardless of ability to pay---- thanks to generous donors.

Sincerely,
