WHY MOTHER'S DAY IS SPECIAL
This is a very special weekend in American life, a time specially set aside to honor our mothers, grandmothers, and those who have taken on the role of a mother. As we do, we acknowledge their role as the heart of our families which serve as the cornerstone of our society.
In families all over America our mothers served day in and day out as the chief cornerstone of the home. It is there we first learn about values and loving and the difference between right and wrong. Growing up we were taught to believe in ourselves and to dream big dreams. Our mother served as the strength we needed to face the world. It was at home that we first learn about having a deep faith in God, the value of hard work, a deep sense of respect and love for America, and the importance of family in our lives.
The mothers we honor this weekend, regardless of age, race, or financial status, share a commitment to not only their families, but to future generations of all Americans as they work in all types of industries and labor at home to improve the world their children will inherit. Our mothers shape not only the America we know today, but they are now molding the character of our country tomorrow.
Our mothers are quiet, everyday heroes struggling to stretch budgets, helping their children with their homework, volunteering at school activities, and too often maintaining their families alone. They're raising children in a fast-paced world where basic family values are constantly questioned and under attack by the media and by government.
Our mothers wear many hats in life. They are teachers, counselors, cooks, physicians, repairmen, housekeepers, and taxi drivers. They are the center of the family. Because of them the family is restored to its rightful place in our society. A place of love, security and hope. These are values that provide for a strong society in American and which contributed to America being called, that "Shining city on a hill."
There is a passage in the Book of Proverbs that describes the ideal woman. It reads,
"Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future.
She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on
her tongue. Give her the product of her hands, and let her works
praise her in the gates."
Well, that passage reminds us of the need to recognize the enormous strengths and contributions of women, wives, and mothers in our everyday lives. There is truly a reason to celebrate on this Mother's Day.
Therefore, let us reward, and recognize our mother for all her examples of love, courage, and personal sacrifice that she has given to us. It is my earnest desire and prayer that her actions will serve as an inspiration to the next generation of women as they teach their children to believe in God, honor their country, and love their family.
Until next time, Let's Talk and Together Let's Move Texas Forward!
God bless you all,
Raul Torres
