The Central Florida Sports Commission would like to welcome and recognize the newly formed Lake County Rowing Association (LCRA). LCRA is a non-profit organization that was started by the Leadership Lake Class of 2010, along with Commissioner Sean Parks and other rowing enthusiast throughout the county.

LCRA plans to offer a number of "Learn To Row" Clinics throughout the year that will be offered to Lake County youth and masters rowers. If you would like to find out more about the LCRA or if you're interested in becoming a member, club officials will have a booth set up at Pig On The Pond in Clermont on March 9th & 10th. A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM BRENT

We hope this month's activity letter finds you well, as the Central Florida Sports Commission continues its extensive work to bring new and exciting sports related events and activities to Lake County.

First, the Sports Commission is pleased to report that the Metro

Competitor Union Flag Football 2012 World Championship, a first time event in Lake County, was a tremendous success.   Nearly 500 athletes, along with their friends and families, made their way to Lake County for two and half days of fierce competition, with initial estimates putting the economic impact at approximately $500,000. We've already been in discussions with the event organizer about bringing the Championship back to Hickory Point Soccer Complex in 2013.  We hope this becomes an annual tradition each year over the MLK holiday weekend.

Speaking of returning events, up next for the Sports Commission and Lake County is the UCF Challenge Women's Golf Invitational at Red Tail Golf Club in Sorrento. This will be the fourth year the Sports Commission has co-hosted this event in Lake County. Teams from across the United States will converge on Lake County to compete for bragging rights leading into the women's collegiate golf season. Best of luck to our hometown UCF Knights!

Following the UCF Challenge, we welcome the 2nd annual Draft Legal Clermont Challenge Triathlon back to town. This is the only age group draft legal triathlon in the country and will be sure to bring in some of the best tri-athletes from around the world to Lake County. Multiple races will take place throughout the day on Saturday March 3rd at Lake Louisa State Park.  We hope you will come on out to cheer on these amazing athletes!

Read more about recent business development initiatives later on in this month's impact report.

Thank you for your continued support as we market Lake County as a world class sports destination!

Best Regards,

Brent Nelson

IN THE PIPELINEinthe

As mentioned in last month's impact report, the Central Florida Sports Commission sent representation to two (2) national conventions.   The first was the US Lacrosse Convention which was staged in Philadelphia.  Billed as "the unofficial start to the lacrosse season," this event gathers the very best the sport has to offer, and provides the sport's largest educational opportunity, with over 5,000 coaches, officials, program administrators and exhibitors in attendance each year.  This convention provided the Sports Commission the opportunity to network with potential event organizers and coaches that might be interested in booking one of our various venues within Lake County.

The same week, we sent staff, along with the National Training Center, to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention in Kansas City.  Billed as "The World's Largest Annual Gathering of Soccer Coaches," the NSCAA Convention typically draws approximately 4,000 coaches from our 30,000-plus members, and more than 9,000 attendees.  Like the US Lacrosse Convention, this convention provided the Sports Commission the opportunity to promote our area assets to interested parties that might want to book one of our multi-purpose venues for an event, camp or team training.

In other news, we recently have started discussions with USA Synchronized Swimming about bringing them back to the National Training Center (NTC) with either the 2013 Synchro US Open or 2013 US Masters National Championship.  Each event would attract around 200 athletes, along with friends and family, from across the United States to Lake County for four to five days depending on the event.  Synchronized swimming events have been very successful at the NTC and we look forward to bringing more back to Lake County.

We have also started dialogue with the NCAA about bringing the Division III Women's Golf National Championship back to the Mission Inn in 2014 and 2015.  You might recall that we hosted the 2010 and 2011 Division III Women's Golf Championships in Lake County, this year we are hosting the 2012 Men's Division III Championship.  The NCAA is very fond of Lake County and Mission Inn and we have had a very successful run of hosting their national championships in our community since 1997.

Sports Commission recently submitted a proposal to the Atlantic Sun Conference to host their 2013 Men's Golf Championship at the Mission Inn Resort. This tournament would bring 10 men's collegiate golf teams from the Southeast to Lake County in April of 2013. The tournament will be a four (4) day event, consisting of one (1) practice round and three (3) competition rounds. Please stay tuned to future impact reports to see if we are awarded this first time opportunity!

In other news, we mentioned in last month's impact report that we were in discussions with the Power Boar Super League about bringing one of their tour stops to Lake County. The Power Boat Super League hosts events around the United States and were looking for additional sites to stage an event in 2012. Unfortunately, due to the high cost of hosting the event, we were unable to forward a proposal. We do plan on keeping in touch with the event organizer should their hosting parameters change sometime in the future.
