A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM BRENT | |
It's hard to believe that the end of 2011 is near. It's been a great year at the Sports Commission. Looking back, the year included a number of notable firsts worth mentioning: the FHSAA Golf Championships in Lake County, the PNC Bank SPORTYS @ Full Sail University, the ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Holiday Festival Basketball Tournament at the Kissimmee Civic Center, the Sunshine State Conference Tennis Tournament at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, and the UF/Rutgers Women's Basketball game at the Ocean Center in Volusia. We're excited about 2012, and look forward to sharing another great year in sports with you!
Coming in January, the CFSC will be sending staff to the US Lacrosse Convention in Philadelphia and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention in Kansas City. These conventions will provide the Sports Commission the opportunity to network with coaches and event partners to help promote Central Florida as a destination for future events and team training opportunities. We'll keep you posted on all the great things we gather from the conventions!
As always, there are several new events on our radar, as we continue to market Central Florida to event organizers from across the country. On behalf of everyone here at the Central Florida Sports Commission, I would like to wish you and your loved ones a safe holiday season. |

DOUBLEHEADER IN VOLUSIA

On December 2nd, the CFSC hosted the University of Florida Women's Basketball team versus Rutgers University at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center. Earlier that afternoon, the reigning FHSAA 6A State Champions, Dr. Phillips, took on Palm Beach County Dwyer. The neutral site game for the University of Florida was its ninth game of the season and its only against a Big East opponent this year. Rutgers, ranked 16th in the Associated Press preseason poll, provided a stern test for the Gators, who returned five starters from last year's squad that won 20 games. Rutgers pulled out the win with a final score of 49-63. As for the two best girl's high school teams in the state, Dr. Phillips pulled out the win with a final score of 77-47.
