A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM BRENT |
It's the holiday season and the new year is around the corner. This has been an extremely successful year for Lake County and the Central Florida Sports Commission and we are looking to continue that success in 2012.
In 2011, we hosted a broad array of events, including several new events not previously staged in Lake County. But we can't overlook those re-occurring events that continue to call Lake County home. We started the year off strong with a series of collegiate golf events which attracted men's & women's teams from all over the country to our community, with the highlight being the NCAA Women's Division III Championship. We also welcomed back USA Synchronized Swimming with the Junior National Championships hosted at the National Training Center, along with the FHSAA Softball Championships. In the fall we hosted the 10th Annual St. John's Collegiate Classic, as well as the FHSAA Golf Championships, which was held for the first time in Lake County.
Wrapping up 2011, in partnership with Lake County, the Sports Commission is proud to be supporting the Hickory Point Invitational. This annual high school soccer tournament, held at the Hickory Point Soccer Complex December 27-29, will bring 24 boys and girls high school teams from across the state for three days of intense competition. This marks the 16th consecutive year the event has been staged in Lake County.
As always, there are several new events on our radar, as we continue to market Lake County to event organizers from across the country. Check out the "In The Pipeline" section of the letter for more details on our recent activity.
On behalf of Adam and everyone here at the Central Florida Sports Commission, I would like to wish you and loved ones a safe holiday season.

IN THE PIPELINE | |
We have been hard at work working on filling up the calendar for next year and beyond. First, we continue to work with the Race For The Kids Foundation to potentially stage a speed boat race next October in Tavares, as well as researching the possibility of hosting the 2012 Stock and Modified Winter National and Pro North American Championships. The Pro North American Championships could bring in as many as 900 - 1000 people to Lake County over a 5 day span in March. The site of this proposed event is still being researched, but we have already conducted a site visit with event organizers in Clermont at Lake Minneola.

In addition, we have been in discussions with staff at the Metro Competitor Flag Football Union (MCFFU) about hosting their World Championships in Lake County at Hickory Point Soccer Complex The event organizers called the Sports Commission recently to see if we could provide them some options within Lake County, as their previously booked site was unfortunately now not available. Initial estimates have the event attracting approximately 1500+ visitors from across the State of Florida and beyond to Lake County. We hope to have a decision by MCFFU in the coming days.
Lastly, we are working with different venues and partners within Lake County with the goal of placing a bid to host the 2013 and 2014 Florida Senior Games. Held over the course of two weekends, the Florida Senior Games consists of 25+ different events and would require sports venues and hotels from across Lake County. Approximately 1000+ room nights are generated in conjunction with the Senior Games. Held annually in December at different locations within the State of Florida, as many as 3,000 athletes participate in one of the many sporting competitions staged. Proposals are due in mid January.
Stay tuned, as more information on each of the above mentioned opportunities should come available in next month's impact report.

The Central Florida Sports Commission, in partnership with the Mission Inn Resort, will be bringing into Lake County the Canadian Junior Golf Association's Spring Break Challenge on March 9 - 11, 2012. This tournament would attract anywhere from 80 - 100 golfers for two days of competition, along with one day of practice. Initial estimates have 450 room nights being generated within the county and it appears the Canadian Junior Golf Association is interested in locking in a long term deal to stay in our region. Additional events have also been discussed.
