A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM BRENT

The New Year is around the corner. This has been a very exciting year for sports in Osceola County, and we are expecting 2012 to be even more exciting and impactful.

We kick off 2012 with five (5) thrilling events in Osceola County. First,CFSC New Logo Soccer Six Blizzard Blast returns to Austin Tindall Park January 7th and 8th for the fifth year in a row. This 6 on 6 adult soccer tournament is a fast-paced game that provides plenty of scoring opportunities for participating teams. The following week has the United States Flag & Touch Football National Championships (USFTL) returning to Austin Tindall Park. Scheduled to take place over the Martin Luther King Weekend, this year's event marks the 16th year in a row the USFTL's National Championships have been staged in Osceola County. Over 300 teams from across the United States participated in the 2011 National Championships.

That same holiday weekend has the Sports Commission and Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau hosting the MLK Girls Volleyball Invitational. This youth volleyball event will utilize both the Silver Spurs Arena and the Exhibition Hall. Over 150 teams from across the southeast are expected to visit Osceola County for this first-time event. We look forward to the first, of hopefully many, MLK Girls Volleyball Invitational's staged in Osceola County.

We will finish up January with several other new sports events being staged in Osceola County, those being the Professional Anglers Association (PAA) Tour Team Challenge and Golfweek Stableford National Championship. More information on each event is provided below in this month's impact report.

Thank you for your continued support, and we wish you and your loved ones a Happy Holidays!

ECONOMIC IMPACT
IN THE PIPELINEI

The Sports Commission and Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau are currently researching a baseball event for May of 2012. The event is the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) Division II World Series. Eight (8) regional champion teams travel to the World Series to participate in a five-day, double elimination tournament to crown the National Champion. Approximately 300+ room nights would be generated by teams alone. Bids are due by the end of December, so stay tuned!

In addition, the Sports Commission is currently evaluating an opportunity to potentially host the 2012 USA BMX Track Operator Seminar.   The Track Operator Seminar is held annually in mid February, and consists of training seminars and meetings conducted for the staff and volunteers that run the association's BMX tracks. The event will attract more than 400 attendees from 49 states and Canada. A hotel is generally the host venue for this conference.

As we mentioned above, the Professional Anglers Association has agreed to bring the 2012 Tour Team Challenge to Osceola County from January 26 - 28. The event will feature 100 boats, and will be unique in the fact that it pairs two (2) professional anglers on a team compared with a professional and an amateur angler. The Sports Commission and Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau are very excited to host this event, and we look forward to once again utilizing one of Osceola County's natural assets in Lake Toho!

In addition, the Sports Commission, in partnership with the Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau, are proud to announce the Golfweek Stableford National Championship will be held in Osceola County in late January. The inaugural event is unique in that it follows the Stableford format for scoring. The Stableford format allows players to score points instead of traditional "strokes." In this format, a player receives four (4) points for an eagle, three (3) points for a birdie, two (2) points for par and one (1) point for bogey. Amateur golfers from across the United States are expected to compete. Golfweek has staged similar events across the United States, so we hope this created event becomes an annual tradition in our community.
