IN THE PIPELINE |
On the business development front, the Sports Commission, in partnership with the Daytona Convention and Visitors Bureau, is taking an in depth look at several events for the coming years. USA Judo, which is the governing body for the Olympic Sport of Judo, has several events that we are researching. USA Judo is responsible for the development, support, and selection of Olympic, Pan American, and World Championship Teams. Events of interest include the US Senior National Championships, the National President's Cup Championships, and the National Junior Olympics. We are also researching the USA Handball National Championships for 2013. This four day tournament determines the best amateur men's and women's club in America and it draws more than 500 participants.
In other news, the Sports Commission recently sent representation to Colorado Springs, Colorado to network with national event organizers such as USA Swimming, USA Karate, USA Volleyball, USA Taekwondo, USA Rugby and USA Fencing, just to name few. This conference provides the Sports Commission a one on one opportunity to network with event organizers in a more intimate setting. Multiple national and regional event opportunities for future years are being evaluated for venues within Volusia County, so stay tuned as more information will come available on each in future impact reports.

In addition, the Sports Commission sent staff to the TEAMS Conference held in Las Vegas in October. Hosted by SPORTSTRAVEL Magazine, the conference features an expo with event organizers seeking to partner with sports commissions and sports destinations to host future sports related events and activities. We meet with over 30+ national event organizers, with the goal of identifying future opportunities for our community venues in Volusia County. More details on the leads generated from this conference to be shared in future impact reports.

On the business development front, the Sports Commission recently submitted a proposal to host the 2012 USA Ultimate Frisbee Grand Masters Open and Masters Women's Championships. The goal of this event is to provide national level competition for players over 40 and for women players over 30. The USAU Grand Masters and Women's Masters Championships features up to forty teams from across the United States and Canada. We have proposed hosting the event at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex. We are working to secure a site visit with the event organizer at the end of October which would be beneficial with respect to the overall selection process. Stay tuned! |
