A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM | |
With the Summer season right around the corner, the Central Florida Sports Commission takes a moment to reflect on the busy Spring we had. Between six Florida High School state championships, ten golf championships - four of which were NCAA Championships, and mix of others such as rugby, tennis, synchronized swimming, and soccer, we have been non-stop! You'll read about some of these events below.
Most recently, the last two weeks have been spent recognizing the best High School athletes in Central Florida. The Central Florida Sports Commission co-hosted the 2nd Annual Bright House Sports Network Breakfast of Champions, holding an awards ceremony within each of the five counties we represent. Thank you to those who joined us in celebrating the accomplishments of these talented students. Click on the image for a recap from the events.
I am pleased to share that our newest professional sports team, Orlando City Soccer, is quickly capturing the Central Florida soccer fan base. Their record is 7-1-2, which puts them in first place in the league. Their next home game will be in June 2 against Charlotte, and we hope you'll make it out to show some support. Click HERE to view their website, and enjoy the games at the Florida Citrus Bowl!
As you can see we've got a lot of great things going on at the Sports Commission, so read about our recent and upcoming activity below.

As for business development, we are sorry to announce that Orlando
was not selected to host the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships. Glasgow, Scotland was selected for this honor. Nonetheless, we are proud of our effort, our bid and the opportunity to host future USA Gymnastics events and other international gymnastics championships. Special thanks to our friends at USAG for their partnership. Locally, Visit Orlando, Walt Disney World Resort, Sea World, Universal Orlando and the Orlando/Orange County Convention Center went above and beyond to support our bid. We look forward to the next opportunity!

| | | Tee-ing off in Lake

Golf reigned supreme in Lake County this month. Starting things off, the Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship was once again held at Mission Inn Resort & Club April 28-May 1. The Charlotte 49'ers secured their sixth straight victory with only five strokes behind Xavier. We are currently working with Mission Inn and Atlantic 10 in hopes to bring their championship back to Lake County next year. Next up, the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships were also held at the Mission Inn Resort. Twenty teams from around the country competed to see who's the best, with the favored Methodist University coming out on top. For more results from the tournament, click HERE. |
