A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM | |
Championship season is here and the action is heating up along with spring temperatures!
April brings to Seminole County the Sunshine State Conference Tennis Championships from the 13th to the 16th at Sanlando Park and the FHSAA Tennis Finals from the 18th to the 22nd at Sanlando Park, Red Bug Lake Park, Sylvan Lake Park and Lake Brantley High School. HOFBALL also makes their second visit to Seminole County. Headquartered at the Sanford Memorial Stadium the National Classic will be held April 18-21 bringing in more baseball teams from across the country and the Virgin Islands!
And let's not overlook the return of the NCAA to Seminole County, which comes in early May. The top men's & women's collegiate tennis teams from across the United States will converge on Altamonte Springs for the opportunity to be crowned national championships. Sanlando Park will once again serve as the stage for this prestigious national championship.
We would like to welcome Dave Zsembik to the team as our new Marketing and Event Manager for Seminole County. He brings a working background in event management that has taken him across the country to manage events at various venues. He has a Sports Management degree from the University of Florida and is looking forward to working with TEAM SEMINOLE in making a positive economic impact through sports in the county.
As always, please do not hesitate to call should you have any questions and we look forward to partnering with TEAM SEMINOLE to generate more great sports activity in Seminole County.

IN THE PIPELINE |
The CFSC and SCCVB have been recently in discussion with the Amateur Athletic Union with respect to creating a youth soccer tournament next spring in Seminole County. Teams (boys/girls) from across the United States would be invited to compete in the event, which is proposed to be staged at Sylvan Lake Park. Depending on how many teams sign up, additional fields at the Seminole Soccer Club would be utilized. Several date patterns have been suggested, including MLK and Presidents Day Weekends, or possibly something in April. We hope to have a decision by the Amateur Athletic Union within the next month or so on whether they will move forward with this event. Stay tuned! In addition, the CFSC and SCCVB recently received the RFP from the FHSAA with respect to hosting the FHSAA Tennis Finals in Seminole County from 2012 - 2013. It is our goal to retain this important piece of business with Seminole County having hosted all clarifications since 2008, so we plan to submit a proposal to the FHSAA by their deadline of May 8. Most, if not all, of Seminole County's multi-court tennis complexes, including Lake Brantley High School, are utilized in the staging of the FHSAA Tennis Finals. |

Its official, the CFSC and SCCVB were recently notified by the Elite Club National Leagues that they plan to host their Girls Winter Showcase in Seminole County this coming December. This year's dates are scheduled to be December 28 - 30, with the event being staged at both Sylvan Lake Park and the Seminole Soccer Club.
This past December's event proved to be an economic home run for hotels and other businesses located within in Seminole County, with over 3,000 room nights being generated at a time of year when our hoteliers need it. We expect this year's event to be bigger, as 30 - 40 additional teams are anticipated to participate in the event. Our goal is that their commitment to return to Seminole County is part of a multiple year deal. |
