| | A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM | |
With the spring season now upon us, the Central Florida Sports Commission finds itself hard at work as we continue our planning for several high school state championships, while at the same time diligently identifying and evaluating multiple event opportunities on behalf of Orange County and the City of Orlando.
Coming up in late April and early May are the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Boys & Girls Lacrosse Championships and Boys & Girls Water Polo Championships. The Lacrosse Championships will be staged at West Orange High School, with the Water Polo Championships being held at the YMCA Aquatic Center. We look forward to sharing the results of each in coming months.
Also, mark your calendars for July 30th, as the craziness that is the Celebrity Mascot Games is coming to the Amway Center for the first time. Read more in our featured article section to learn how you can get event updates and special ticket offers.
Last, but certainly not least, we'd like to wish the Magic "good luck" as they enter the playoff season. Tickets are available for as low as $29 and can be purchased at the Amway Center Box Office or through Ticketmaster.
As always, thank you for your continued support as we continue to market Orlando and Orange County as the "Ultimate Sports Destination".

IN THE PIPELINE | |

The Sports Commission, in partnership with the Orlando Magic, Visit Orlando and the Orange County Convention Center, have been recently working with the National Sports Forum to see if we can host their Annual Meetings in February of 2013. The Sports Forum is the largest annual cross-gathering of the top team sports marketing, sales, promotions and event entertainment executives from throughout the broad spectrum of teams and leagues (i.e. NFL, Major League Baseball, NHL, Colleges) in North America. The Sports Forum meets each year for three to four days of networking, idea sharing and listening to the industry's top spokespeople
It appears that several properties adjacent to the Convention Center are under consideration as the host hotel(s). Approximately 1,000 room nights would be generated from the National Sports Forum. We hope to get a final decision from the event organizers within the next month.
In other news, the Sports Commission is in the final stages of partnering with the Florida Sports Foundation to co-host their Sunshine State Games Water Polo Championships at the YMCA Aquatic Center on International Drive. The event is scheduled to take place June 17 - 19, 2011 and will attract 30 - 40 youth teams from across the State of Florida to Orlando. We last hosted the event in Seminole County at multiple venues in 2009. This same event generated approximately 400 + room nights for area hoteliers. |

Quick update on the 2015 FIG World Artistic Gymnastics Championships as mentioned in last month's impact report. The Sports Commission, Visit Orlando and Amway Center are in the final phase of submitting a revised proposal to USA Gymnastics for the right to host the event in Orlando in the fall of 2015. The proposed dates of the event (both training and competition) would be from September 25th - October 11. Gymnastics teams from across the world including China, Russia and Bulgaria, along with thousands of spectators, would be in Orlando over the course of 18 days. In addition, USA Gymnastics would host their Annual Congress (Meetings & Tradeshow) in conjunction with the World Championships. Approximately 1,500 - 2,000 attendees participate in the Congress. We are currently proposing hosting their Annual Congress at the Orange County Convention Center, with adjacent properties serving as the host hotels. Approximately 18,000 + room nights would be generated by both the World Championships and Congress within the City of Orlando/Orange County.
Based on our recent site visit with USA Gymnastics, we learned that they have narrowed down their search of US cities to Orlando and one other destination. Should we make USAG's final cut, we would then travel to Anaheim this May to give a presentation to the International Council. Several international destinations are vying to also host the Worlds in 2015, those potentially being Paris, France and Glasgow, Scotland. Stay tuned as we hope to share more news with you in next month's impact report.
