A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM

AND WE'RE OFF!!!!  The busy spring season for Lake County and the Central Florida Sports Commission has officially begun, so put away your sweaters and your gloves because it's time for some golf.

Last month we hosted the UCF Challenge at Red Tail Golf Club where we had over 100 athletes and coaches from around the country competing.  In the end, Coastal Carolina came out on top winning the tournament in extra holes. It was a great tournament and a great boom for north Lake County.

Next on the tee is the annual St. John's Spring Fling which will be contested again at Mission Inn.  This year we're expecting 17 teams, both men's and women's along with individual players for three days of great competition.

At the end of March we will again be hosting the USA Synchro Junior Nationals at the National Training Center.  This event is expected to bring in over 200 athletes and just as many spectators. Athletes for this event will not only be coming from all over the country, but internationally as well.

On the business development front, we recently learned that we have been awarded the FHSAA Golf Finals. Read more about this exciting news and other activity below.

Thank you for your support as we continue to market Lake County as the "Ultimate Sports Destination".

Best Regards,

IIN THE PIPELINE

The Sports Commission has recently learned that the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee will be seeking bids to host the 2013 East Regional in May of 2013.   This four (4) day event would attract approximately 170+ participants, coaches and officials from across the United States to Lake County.  Courses under consideration are the Mission Inn Resort and Red Tail Golf Club.  The University of Central Florida would serve as our co-host should we submit a proposal.

Looking ahead, the Sports Commission will be sending multiple staff to the 2011 National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) Sports Event Symposium in Greensboro, North Carolina on April 11 - 15.  This annual conference will provide a great opportunity for the Sports Commission to network with multiple event organizers and identify new event opportunities for hotels and sports venues within Lake County.  A short list of targeted event organizers that we expect to be in attendance include the NCAA, US Lacrosse, AAU, Triple Crown Sports and FLW Outdoors; just to name a few.

The Central Florida Sports Commission has recently been notified that we have been awarded, pending final contractual negotiations, the right to host the 2011 & 2012 FHSAA Golf Finals.  Approximately 396 golfers (both boys/girls) from across the State of Florida are expected to compete in this year's event.  The Golf Finals will be held at a combination of Mission Inn Resort and Club, Deer Island County Club, and Harbor Hills Country Club.  We hope to be able to make an official announcement within the next month, so stay tuned!

In addition, we notified you last month of the bid that we had forwarded to the NCAA for the opportunity to host the 2013 NCAA Division II Men's Golf East Regional at the Mission Inn Resort.  According to our representative at the NCAA, our bid has been accepted by the NCAA Division II Golf Committee but won't be officially announced until it clears through several additional committees.   This four (4) day event would attract over 100 participants and coaches to Lake County. Keep your fingers crossed.
