The Central Florida Sports Commission, the City of Orlando, Edgewater High School, and Orange County Public Schools will serve as co-hosts for the 2010 FHSAA Football Finals. In this event's fourth year in Orlando, we hope surpass 2007's mark of more than 55,752 spectators (the second largest crowd in FHSAA history) and break the FHSAA record. The four-day event consists of eight state championship games to be played at the Florida Citrus Bowl on Dec. 10, 11, 17 and 18. For more information, and to find out which teams will be playing, please click HERE. We hope to see you there!

| A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM | |
As we gear up for the holiday season, the month of December brings a stocking full of sporting events in Central Florida.
Of course, you cannot miss the FHSAA Football Finals being held over the next two weekends at the Florida Citrus Bowl. Several local teams, including Warner Christian, Seminole and Dr. Phillips, are still in the running for the state championship. See the featured article section on the left for more information.
Just a week later, the Orlando Magic will host the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day at the Amway Center. The Champs Sports Bowl and Capital One Bowl feature some of the best teams from the ACC, Big East, Big 10 and SEC at the Citrus Bowl, December 28th and January 1st. And, although not taking place in Central Florida, we will cheer on the Knights as UCF takes on Georgia at the AutoZone Liberty Bowl on December 31st.
Looking back, the Central Florida Sports Commission, in partnership with the YMCA Aquatic Center, once again hosted the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Swimming and Diving Championships on November 11-13. Approximately 150 schools from across the state competed at the YMCA Aquatic Center on International Drive for three separate days (1 day for each classification). The event, which determined boys and girls individual and team state titles, was once again a great success.
On the business development front, your Sports Commission is currently reviewing bids for multiple FHSAA events and recently had an exciting win for Orange County. Read about our recent activity below in this month's impact report.
Happy Holidays! |

IN THE PIPELINE | |

The Sports Commission is currently reviewing RFP's from the Florida High School Athletic Association that were recently released in November. In all, over 12 State Finals are up for bid for hosting, starting in the fall of 2011. Boys & Girls Basketball, Boys Wrestling, Boys Tackle Football, Boys and Girls Swimming & Diving, Boys & Girls Lacrosse and Boys & Girls Water Polo are a few of the State Finals under consideration for venues within both the City of Orlando and Orange County. Bids are due to the FHSAA by early January, so stay tuned as more information will come available in the coming weeks!
In addition, the Sports Commission has had recent correspondence with the Atlantic Coast Conference with respect to hosting their Men's Basketball Championship at the Amway Center. One of their staff was able to tour the Amway Center back in October, and since their visit, we have had several follow up conversations regarding the Men's Basketball Championship. RFP's are expected be distributed next summer to cities interesting in hosting the event from 2016 - 2021. Once we receive the RFP, we will be sure to share more details with you. |

The Sports Commission, in conjunction with the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau (OOCVB) and Hilton located in the Walt Disney Resort, is proud to announce that we have been awarded the opportunity to host the 2016 USA Track & Field Annual Meetings in Orlando. The CFSC, OOCVB and Hilton recently sent staff to Virginia Beach, Virginia to give a presentation to the USA Track & Field search committee and learned soon thereafter of our success. The conference will take place in early December in 2016, and will attract approximately 1,500 attendees from across the United States to our community for several days of meetings.
In other news, the Sports Commission has recently been reviewing multiple event opportunities with USA Fencing. USA Fencing has multiple events up for bid, starting in the fall of 2011 thru the summer of 2014. Area hotel convention space and/or the Orange County Convention Center were venues considered for possibly hosting a USA Fencing national event. Based on our diligence, it doesn't appear that we will be forwarding a proposal to USA Fencing due to the financial and space requirements necessary for hosting their national events.
