The Central Florida Sports Commission, the City of Orlando, Edgewater High School, and Orange County Public Schools will serve as co-hosts for the 2010 FHSAA Football Finals. In this event's fourth year in Orlando, we hope surpass 2007's mark of more than 55,752 spectators (the second largest crowd in FHSAA history) and break the FHSAA record. The four-day event consists of eight state championship games to be played at the Florida Citrus Bowl on Dec. 10, 11, 17 and 18. For more information, and to find out which teams will be playing, please click HERE.  We hope to see you there!

A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM

The New Year is around the corner. This has been an extremely successful year for Lake County and the Central Florida Sports Commission and we are looking to continue that success into 2011.

We will wrap up the year with over $5 million in economic impact and around 7,000 room nights for Lake County. 2011 is already shaping up to be a great year in Lake County with more than 20 events scheduled, including the return of the USA Synchronized Swimming Junior Nationals and for the first time, the Horizon League Golf Championship.  The NCAA and FHSAA will return in 2011 with their prestigious championships, along with other partners such as the Atlantic 10, St. Johns University and Florida Travel Ball Baseball.

On the business development front, the Sports Commission is reviewing several FHSAA State Final opportunities, while developing the framework for a local and regional soccer event.  Moreover, we have two (2) business trips planned over the course of the next two (2) months to network with national event partners.  Read about our recent activity and more later on in this month's impact report.

Lastly, I would like to introduce our new Lake County Marketing and Events Manager Adam Ashton.  Adam comes to us from Disney Sports where he worked on the Endurance Sales team and brings a lot of knowledge and experience from the sports world.  Adam is a recent graduate of the DeVos Sports Business Management Program at the University of Central Florida and is a lifelong resident of Central Florida.  He is very excited to be working in Lake County, if you haven't heard from him already, you will in the near future.

Happy Holidays!

Best Regards,
Sam Stark

IIN THE PIPELINE

The Sports Commission is currently reviewing RFP's from the Florida High School Athletic Association that were recently released in November.   In all, over 12 State Finals are up for bid for hosting, starting in the fall of 2011.  Boys & Girls Golf, Girls Softball and Boys & Girls Cross Country are a few of the State Finals under consideration for venues within Lake County.  We hope to submit one or more proposals based on our ability to meet the hosting requirements as requested by the FHSAA.  Bids are due to the FHSAA by early January.

In addition, the Sports Commission will be sending representation to the upcoming US Sports Congress in Ft Myers, Florida.  The US Sports Congress brings Sports Commissions and event organizers together to network and discuss the state of the industry.  Over 25+ event organizers are expected to be in attendance, so we plan to share the results of our meetings with you in a future impact report.

Coming in January, the CFSC will also be sending staff to the NCAA Convention in San Antonio, Texas. This convention will provide the Sports Commission to network with college administrators, coaches and event partners to promote Lake County as a destination for future event and team training opportunities.

As mentioned in last month's impact report, we recently conducted a site visit with 3v3 Live Soccer Tour to possibly hold both a local qualifier event, along with a regional qualifier, next spring and summer at Hickory Point Soccer Complex.   Based on our recent correspondence with 3v3 Live Soccer Tour, it appears that we have initially agreed upon dates in 2011.   A local qualifier will be staged February 26 - 27, with a regional qualifier scheduled for July 16 - 17.   Teams from across the region will have to participate in both a local and regional qualifier to earn a spot in the National Championship held in Texas.
