The Central Florida Sports Commission, the City of Orlando, Edgewater High School, and Orange County Public Schools will serve as co-hosts for the 2010 FHSAA Football Finals. In this event's fourth year in Orlando, we hope surpass 2007's mark of more than 55,752 spectators (the second largest crowd in FHSAA history) and break the FHSAA record. The four-day event consists of eight state championship games to be played at the Florida Citrus Bowl on Dec. 10, 11, 17 and 18. For more information, and to find out which teams will be playing, please click HERE.  We hope to see you there!

We are well into the fall season and excited about the next few weeks.  With the Thanksgiving holiday on the horizon, we have so much to be thankful for.  For sure, we are thankful for great sports in Central Florida.  So much is going on and it adds to the excitement of the holiday season and to the quality of life in our community.  Here are just a few of the events that you should know about: the Old Spice Classic collegiate men's basketball tournament is at the ESPN Wide World of Sports beginning Thanksgiving day through Sunday, November 28; the LPGA 2010 Tour Championship will be held at the Grand Cypress Golf Club Nov. 30-Dec. 5; UCF men's basketball plays the Florida Gators on December 1 at the Amway Center; Rollins Men's team plays in the Division II NCAA Final Four in Louisville on Dec. 2...there's always more but this should, for now, get you through the next few weeks!

Looking back for a moment, we thank those who supported and attend the Central Florida Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony last week. Mayor Buddy Dyer and Mayor Richard Crotty are among the six newest members of the Central Florida Sports Hall of Fame.  The ceremony, hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission, was held on Wednesday night at the Amway Center. Congrats to Chelsea Britt of Lake Highland Prep!  The Lake Highland sophomore set a new state record in the Girls 100 yard Butterfly for the Class 1A State Swimming & Diving Championship with a time of 53.83.  This was Britt's third state title.  Overall, Lake Highland's girls finished fourth with 171.5 points and the boys came in fourth behind their third-place 200 and 400 free relay teams. The Central Florida Sports Commission and the YMCA Aquatic Center co-hosted the FHSAA Swimming & Diving Championships November 11-13. Keep an eye on Britt, as we're sure there will be more records to break during her Junior and Senior seasons!

Let's go Hatters!AthSpot

For the fourth year in a row, the Stetson women's golf team claimed victory at its own Holiday Inn Express Hatter Classic, rallying from a six-stroke deficit entering the final round and winning a three-hole playoff over Daytona State at Victoria Hills Golf Club on November 9th.  Three Hatters also placed in the top five individually, including sophomore Alexandria Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) and freshman Sammi Smith (Louisville, Ky.). The Stetson men's golf team finished in a tie for third place. The fall season is now over for the Hatters; the spring portion of the schedule will start back up in March. We look forward to following them again during the spring.

Time For Some FootballO

Get ready -- the American Youth Football National Championships are on the way to Osceola county! We have started looking for volunteers to help with the chain crew on the field.  A basic knowledge of football is preferred but not absolutely necessary for every person. The football competition will be held at Austin Tindall December 5-10.  This event is expected to bring in more than 20,000 athletes and spectators to Osceola County, and create more than $13 million in economic impact for our local economy.  If you're looking to be a part of such a grand event, please email gbrown@centralfloridasports.org.
