A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM
|
We hope this month's activity letter finds you well, as the Central Florida Sports Commission continues its extensive work to bring new and exciting sports related events and activities to Osceola County.
With some crisp temperatures moving in, fall is definitely in the air, and that means that football season is in full swing. Florida's pro teams are more than half-way through their season, college teams are positioning themselves for bowl games and high school teams are vying to advance to the state championship game in Orlando. In Osceola however, our favorite football players are under 5 feet tall. That's because the American Youth Football & Cheer National Championships invade Osceola County in early December. The football competition will be held at Austin Tindall December 5-10, and the cheer competition will be held at Osceola Heritage Park on December 11. Together these two events will bring more than 20,000 athletes and spectators to Osceola County and create more than $13 million in economic impact for our local economy.
On the business development front, the Sports Commission is proud to announce that BASS will be returning to Osceola County in 2011 to stage one of their marquee events. Read more about this exciting event, and other business development initiatives, later on in this month's impact report.
Thank you for your continued support as we continue to market Osceola County as the "Amateur Sports Capital." |

Best Regards,
Sam Stark President/CEO Central Florida Sports Commission |

IN THE PIPELINE |
The Sports Commission recently sent staff to the TEAMS Conference held in Charlotte, North Carolina in late October. Hosted by SPORTSTRAVEL Magazine, the conference features an expo with event organizers seeking to partner with sports commissions and sports destinations to host future sports related events and activities. We meet with over 30+ national event organizers, with the goal of identifying future opportunities for venues within Osceola County. Several groups of note that might provide future opportunities for Osceola County include US Canoe & Kayak, FLW Outdoors, USA Archery and Nations Baseball, just to name a few.
In other news, the Sports Commission recently sent several staff to Gainesville to meet with the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) for the purpose of identifying future FHSAA State Championships events currently up for bid. Boys & Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Boys & Girls Golf and Girls Volleyball are a few of the events under consideration for venues within Osceola County. Bids will be due to the FHSAA in early January, so stay tuned! |
