A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM

As the cool air of fall moves in, planning for the Elite Club National League soccer tournament is heating up.  The quickly approaching ECNL event is serving as a primary example of the undeniable impact of TEAM SEMINOLE when hosting major events such as this soccer tournament.  With an event that is projected to generate over 5,000 room nights throughout Seminole County, members of TEAM SEMINOLE, hoteliers, and businesses in the County are coming together to offer an unparalleled experience for athletes and spectators alike.  These are the areas where Seminole County rises above the rest, and we are excited about the product we are going to offer to all those who are involved in this event.

The great partnership that the Sports Commission enjoys with Seminole County is a direct reflection of the support of the County leadership.  The Sports Commission would like to thank Commissioner McLean for his unwavering support of sports as an economic driver in Seminole County and throughout Central Florida.  We also would like to congratulate and welcome John Horan to the Seminole County Board of County Commissioners.  We look forward to continuing this great working relationship into the next decade!

On the business development front, your Sports Commission had an active month on the road identifying future event opportunities for Seminole County sports venues. Read about our recent activity below in this month's impact report.

As always, please do not hesitate to call should you have any questions and we look forward to partnering with TEAM SEMINOLE to generate more great sports activity in Seminole County.

Best Regards,
Sam Stark

IN THE PIPELINE

The Sports Commission recently sent staff to the TEAMS Conference held in Charlotte, North Carolina in late October.  Hosted by SPORTSTRAVEL Magazine, the conference features an expo with event organizers seeking to partner with sports commissions and sports destinations to host future sports related events and activities.  We meet with over 30+ national event organizers, with the goal of identifying future opportunities for venues within Osceola County.  Several groups of note that might provide future opportunities for Seminole County include US Canoe & Kayak, FLW Outdoors, NAIA, Kick It 3 V 3 Soccer Tour and Nations Baseball, just to name a few.

In other news, the Sports Commission recently sent several staff to Gainesville to meet with the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) for the purpose of identifying future FHSAA State Championships events currently up for bid.   A majority of their statewide events are up for bid at the end of the school year.  Bids will be due to the FHSAA in early January, so stay tuned on which might be good fits for Seminole County!

The Sports Commission is in the preliminary stages of creating a youth soccer tournament with US Club Soccer for the summer of 2011.  This annual event would target teams (ages 10 - 16) from across the United States and even some international teams.  Initial contemplations have the event attracting 50 - 75 teams in the first year.  Either Sylvan Lake Park or the Seminole Soccer Complex would serve at the primary venue for the tournament.  Stay tuned, as more information (including proposed dates) will come available in future impact reports.

COMMUNITY PROFILE

C

The Families in Transition (F.I.T.) Program with Seminole County Public Schools has identified over 900 homeless children in Seminole County since the start of the school year. This is almost 150% increase from one year ago today.  The Families in Transition Program hosted their 5th Annual Families in Transition Event at Winter Springs High School on November 13, 2010 from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, A Day of Magical Connections. This resource fair invited 50+ community agencies and over 250 homeless families for a "one-stop-shop" day of accessing services.  This proved to be an amazing opportunity to serve families in need in our local community. For more information please click HERE!
