A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM
|
We hope this month's activity letter finds you well, as the Central Florida Sports Commission continues its extensive work to bring new and exciting sports related events and activities to Osceola County.
No doubt many of you are cheering on your favorite college team as they compete on the field or court this fall. I am sure there are a lot UCF, UF, FSU and Miami fans out there, but for many in Osceola County our favorite college teams compete in the National Christian College Athletic Association. That is because the NCCAA brings four of its national championship events to Osceola County in November and December. The NCCAA Division II and I soccer national championships will be held at Austin Tindall Regional Park on November 10-13 and December 1-4. Volleyball teams will compete for the Division II and I NCCAA national titles at the Kissimmee Civic Center November 11-13 and December 2-4.
On the business development front, your Sports Commission had an active month including traveling to two industry trade shows and hosting two site visits. Read about our recent activity below in this month's impact report.
Lastly, Courtney Karolick, our Osceola County Sports Marketing Manager, recently left the Sports Commission. We have already begun identifying candidates to replace Courtney, and plan to have our new Osceola County Sports Marketing Manager in place in the coming weeks
Thank you for your continued support as we continue to market Osceola County as the "Amateur Sports Capital."

IN THE PIPELINE |
The Sports Commission recently sent representation to Colorado Springs, Colorado to network with national event organizers such as USA Karate, USA Weightlifting, USA Volleyball, ASA Softball and USA Fencing, just to name few. Multiple national and regional event opportunities for future years are being evaluated for venues within Osceola County, so stay tuned as more information will come available on each in future impact reports.
In addition, the Sports Commission will also be sending staff to the upcoming TEAMS Conference to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina in late October. Hosted by SPORTSTRAVEL Magazine, the conference features an expo with event organizers seeking to partner with sports commissions and sports destinations to host future sports related events and activities. We expect to meet with over 30+ national event organizers, with the goal of identifying future opportunities for venues within Osceola County. |

Great news! The Sports Commission is proud to announce that Osceola County has been chosen as the host community for the 2012 USA Gymnastics Region 8 Level 7 & 8 Qualifier Meet. Approximately 450 girls from across the Southeast will compete in this event. The event is scheduled to be April 12 - 15 in the Exhibition Hall at Osceola Heritage Park. We will share more details on this event in future impact reports but this event continues our streak of hosting national and regional meets with USA Gymnastics.
In other news, the Sports Commission recently conducted site visits with the Orlando Volleyball Academy and the Sunshine State Conference at venues within Osceola County. Orlando Volleyball Academy is interested in hosting a girls youth volleyball event at Silver Spurs Arena in January of 2011. Approximately 40 - 50 teams from the region would be in attendance. The Sunshine State Conference is interested in hosting their Men's & Women's Basketball Tournament at the Kissimmee Civic Center in early March of 2012. 9 men's teams and 9 women's teams would compete in the event. Rollins College, Florida Southern, Barry University and St. Leo University are just a few of the institutions that would compete for conference bragging rights. Stay tuned for more information on both opportunities. |
