A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM
Orlando Magic basketball, Tuskers football, PGA & LPGA golf... With the opening of the new Amway Center, as well as a full calendar of events this fall, there is no shortage of things to boast about in Orange County and Orlando.
What is your favorite part of the Amway Center? Ours is the Central Florida Sports Hall of Fame display on the west side of the Terrace Level concourse. Thanks to a partnership with the City of Orlando & Orlando Magic, this is the home of the Central Florida Sports Hall of Fame. The new display is a fitting tribute to Central Florida's finest athletes and contributors to sport. On November 17th, we will welcome the newest members into the Central Florida Sports Hall of Fame. Check out our featured article section on the left for more information and learn how to purchase your tickets.
Looking ahead, the best high school athletes will once again be on display in Orlando this fall. The FHSAA Swimming & Diving Finals will be held at the YMCA Aquatic Center on International Drive, November 11-13. The FHSAA Football Finals will be held at the Florida Citrus Bowl December 10-11 & 17-18.

IN THE PIPELINE | |
The Sports Commission recently sent representation to Colorado Springs, Colorado to network with national event organizers such as USA Karate, USA Weightlifting, USA Volleyball and USA Fencing, just to name few. Multiple national and regional event opportunities for future years are being evaluated for venues with the City of Orlando and Orange County, so stay tuned as more information will come available on each in future impact reports.

In addition, the Sports Commission will also be sending staff to the upcoming TEAMS Conference to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina in late October. Hosted by SPORTSTRAVEL Magazine, the conference features an expo with event organizers seeking to partner with sports commissions and sports destinations to host future sports related events and activities. We expect to meet with over 30+ national event organizers, with the goal of identifying future opportunities for our community venues such as the Florida Citrus Bowl, Amway Center and Orange County Convention Center, just to name a few. |

The Sports Commission, in conjunction with the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau (OOCVB), recently learned our proposal to host the 2015 or 2016 USA Track & Field Annual Meetings made the short list of potential hosts. The conference would take place in early December, and would attract approximately 1,500 attendees to our community for several days of meetings. An initial site visit is scheduled with USA Track & Field in early November to review hotel properties. Should that visit go well, the next step will be for the Sports Commission and OOCVB to travel to Virginia Beach, VA in early December to give a final presentation to the USA Track & Field selection committee.
In other news, the Sports Commission was contemplating submitting two (2) bids to USA Volleyball for the opportunity to host a National High Level Performance Camp that would take place in late July of 2012, along with the Collegiate Club National Championships for early April of 2011. Each of these events are owned and operated by USA Volleyball and would need to be hosted at the Orange County Convention Center based on the venue requirements. The Performance Camp would attract approximately 80 + teams from across the United States to Orlando, with the Collegiate Club National Championships attracting over 250 volleyball teams to our community. Unfortunately, due to date availability and/or the financial requirements to host each, we were not able to bid on either event opportunity.
We will continue to explore opportunities with USA Volleyball and like event organizers that are good fits for our region.
