A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM

The crisp nights and humidity free days are slowly but surely making their way back to Central Florida, which can only mean that fall is in the air!

The month of September provided a perfect time to focus on business development and to plan for the busy fall and spring seasons. The month concluded with a very productive TEAM SEMINOLE meeting, where the group had the opportunity to further develop the yearly schedule of events, while also continuing to plan for the events in 2011. The Sports Commission was also able to submit several important bids on behalf of Seminole County, including events with USA Rugby and the Metropolitan Junior Baseball League. You will hear more about these great potential events further on in the report.

Also, the Sunshine State Conference has officially announced that Sanlando Park will be the site of the 2011 Sunshine State Conference Tennis Championships!  This exciting championship will be hosted by Nova Southeastern University from Thursday, April 14 through Saturday, April 16, 2011. The SSC Championship will feature the top eight women's teams and all seven conference men's teams.  Play will begin with quarterfinal action on April 14 and conclude with the championship matches and consolation contests on April 16.

As always, please do not hesitate to call should you have any questions and we look forward to partnering with TEAM SEMINOLE to generate more great sports activity in Seminole County.

Best Regards,
Sam Stark

This past month the Sports Commission submitted bids for three (3) USA Rugby events for Seminole County venues in 2011. The events bid on include the Men's & Women's Division II Collegiate Playoffs, Men's & Women's Senior Club 7s Championships and the Women's Division I & II Club Championships. Sylvan Lake Park and/or the Seminole Soccer Club are two of the potential host venues for these events.  USA Rugby has notified us that a decision on future host sites will be made public in late November, so stay tuned.

Also in September, the CFSC and Seminole County Convention & Visitors Bureau were able to submit a proposal to the Metropolitan Junior Baseball League to host their 2011 MJBL Classic and the Black College World Series in late July.  Games would potentially be hosted at the Seminole County Softball Complex and Eastmonte Park in Altamonte Springs, among other venues located throughout region.  Over 50 youth baseball teams from throughout the United States competed in this year's event in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In addition, the Sports Commission and Seminole County CVB recently conducted meetings with Florida Amateur Softball Association regarding the opportunity to create and/or bid on some future youth and adult softball events for venues within Seminole County.  Specific events and dates are still to be determined, but we will be sure to share that information with you once it comes available.
