IN THE PIPELINE |
On the business development front, the Sports Commission, in partnership with the Daytona Convention and Visitors Bureau, recently participated in a site visit with Terry Sullivan of 360 All American Bowl. 360 All American hosts several football events annually that bring together the country's top Division II and III college seniors, free agents, as well as Junior College and High School athletics to compete in an All-Star bowl setting. The All American Bowl was founded in 1996 and has been held annually the third weekend in December at the Mall of America Field at the HHH Metrodome as well as several other great regional locations across the country, including its debut in Daytona back in 1999. Other like events are staged annually by 360 All American throughout the year. Notable alumni include: Chris Hanson (current punter for the New England Patriots), Maurice Hicks (former running back for the Minnesota Vikings) and Keith Williams (former running back for the Green Bay Packers). We look forward to bringing this event, among others being contemplated, to the new $900,000 playing surface of the Municipal Stadium in 2011.

In addition, the Sports Commission recently sent representation to Colorado Springs, Colorado to network with national event organizers such as USA Karate, USA Weightlifting, USA Volleyball and USA Fencing, just to name few. Multiple event opportunities for future years are being evaluated for venues within Volusia County, so stay tuned as more information will come available on each in future impact reports. The Sports Commission will also be sending staff to the upcoming TEAMS Conference to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina in late October. Hosted by SPORTSTRAVEL Magazine, the conference features an expo with event organizers seeking to partner with sports commissions and sports destinations to host future sports related events and activities. |

Its official! Our friends at Red Frog Events will be staging their first ever Beach Palooza event in Volusia County this fall. This event was officially approved by the County Council on September 19th and will feature the "World's Most Famous Beach" as its inaugural location on November 13, 2010. We thank the County Council for their support of this unique opportunity!
Beach Palooza is a gnarly running event held on the sandy shores of Daytona Beach where "paloozers" get their feet wet while tackling a series of radical obstacles. As the sun sets, the stoked crowd lets loose around a blazing bonfire with a pig roast and beach tunes! Past events hosted by Red Frog Events have drawn participations from 47 states and three countries! They have also generated more than $2 million from hotel and restaurant sales combined! We look forward to this one-of-a-kind event and the economic impact it'll have on Volusia County at what is a slower time of economic activity.
