A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM
| | We hope you had a great summer!
As we embark on the fall and the busy sports season ahead, we must first reflect on the great summer we had. The fur was flying at the Mascot Games as nearly 30 mascots entertained more than 15,000 thousand fans at three great shows. Click on the Mascot Games logo to watch mascot craziness from the event!
And more than 3,000 of the best taekwondo athletes kicked down the doors at the Orange County Convention Center in July at the USA Taekwondo Junior Olympics. This event created more than $7.5 million economic impact and 13,000 room nights for our region. Click HERE to watch some of the action.
It's a great time of year in Central Florida with high school, college and pro football kicking off in the coming weeks and of course the Magic season just around the corner. The Magic's first game will be held on Thursday, October 28 against Washington. The game will be played at the new Amway Center, which will officially open its doors in less than 40 days. With its modern architecture and comfortable amenities, the Amway Center will be an iconic destination for the Central Florida area. This is a busy time here at the Sports Commission as we gear up for the fall. Check out the info below in the Community Sports Report, and have a safe Labor Day!

ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT |
Central Florida has been graced by the presence of another star. U.S. sprinter Tyson Gay, who just set a world record in the 100-meters at the IAAF Diamond League meet in Stockholm, trains right here at the National Training Center in Clermont. Tyson was able to beat the current record holder, Usain Bolt of Jamaica, with a time of 9.84 seconds. We wish Tyson great success in the rest of his meets, and look forward to watching him train on the track this fall.
