| A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM
|
As family vacations come to an end, and preparation begins for the upcoming school year, the Sports Commission finds itself hard at work planning for upcoming events, while still focusing on future business development for Osceola County. First, the Central Florida Sports Commission and Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau, in partnership with USA Gymnastics, co-hosted the 2010 Acrobatic Gymnastics National Championships. This event, held at the Silver Spurs Arena, took place July 24-28, 2010 and brought in more than 500 athletes from all over the United States. World mixed pair champions Kristin Allen and Michael Rodrigues, both from West Coast California Training Center, won the senior mixed pair combined all-around title. This three time winning duo also took the balance and dynamic titles on the first day of elite competition. In addition to crowing the U.S. champions, members of the U.S. National Team were also determined during the National Championships. Click on the picture for some video highlights from the event. Coming up next month, the World Baseball Federation will host their opening baseball event at the Osceola County Stadium. The event will take place September 10th -12th, and will attract some of the brightest youth baseball stars from across the region to Kissimmee. The World Baseball Federation is dedicated to worldwide promotion of youth baseball at the highest level. On the business development front, the Sports Commission recently forwarded a bid to USA Wrestling, and is currently reviewing multiple other event opportunities for our regional sports venues. Read about each, and more, below in this month's impact report.
Thank you for your continued support as we continue to market Osceola County as the "Amateur Sports Capital." |

IN THE PIPELINE |
On the business development front, the Sports Commission has recently been reviewing the Request for Proposal (RFP) to host the East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Lacrosse League Championships in May of 2012. We would propose hosting the event at Austin Tindall Park, where the top 4 collegiate teams within the league would compete for national bragging rights. Based on initial reports, approximately 300+ room nights would be generated from this event. In addition, the Sports Commission is looking into the opportunity to host several future National College Athletic Association (NCAA) regional and/or national events. Events currently under review include National Collegiate Rifle, Division II Men's Regional Golf, Division I Women's East Regional Golf and Division III Men's Wrestling. Lastly, the Sports Commission just recently received a RFP from the Florida Community College Activities Association for the opportunity to stage the 2011 - 2014 Women's State Volleyball Tournament. We hope share more details associated with this specific opportunity in next month's impact report. As always, stay tuned for more information on these and additional opportunities the Sports Commission is currently evaluating on behalf of Osceola County. |

Earlier this month, the Sports Commission, in partnership with the Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Florida Amateur Wrestling Association, forwarded a formal proposal to USA Wrestling for the opportunity to stage a Pan American Olympic Qualifier in March of 2012. This event would be televised both domestically and internationally, and would qualify athletes from countries such as the United States, Canada and Cuba for the 2012 Olympics. If awarded, this prestigious event would attract over 1,200 athletes, coaches, administrators and spectators to the Silver Spurs Arena for three days of competition. We expect to receive notice from USA Wrestling this coming September, so stay tuned. |
