A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM SAM |
The dead of summer is here in Central Florida, but the sizzling temperatures hasn't stopped the Sports Commission from forging ahead in developing new event opportunities for Seminole County! After an exciting spring season of championships in Seminole County, we here are the Sports Commission are turning up the heat on business development for events for the fall of 2010 and beyond. The Crank the Rock Classic is a new lacrosse event that we are developing for the first weekend in November. This created tournament will look to draw 20 - 30 boy's high school lacrosse teams from across the State of Florida to Sanford. The Orlando Titans are assisting the Sports Commission in developing this event. In addition to creating new events, we have been sending out proposals to some new potential event partners. Earlier this month, the CFSC officially submitted a bid to the Atlantic-10 Conference with the goal of staging their 2011 Women's Tennis Championship at Sanlando Tennis Park. The event would be staged in early April and would attract 14 tennis teams to Altamonte Springs. Rhode Island, Xavier, Charlotte and George Washington are a few of the schools that would be in attendance. Additionally, the Sports Commission is reviewing a RFP from the Sunshine State Conference to host their Men and Women's Tennis Championships in April of 2011. This event would also be stated at Sanlando Park, and would attract 15 teams to the community. Participating schools include Rollins College, Florida Southern and Barry University; just to name a few. The placement of these two events in Seminole County will sure build on the already shinning reputation that Seminole County has for staging world-class tennis championships. We hope to have updates on these proposals in the coming months.
As always, please do not hesitate to call should you have any questions and we look forward to partnering with TEAM SEMINOLE to generate more great sports activity in Seminole County. |

| IN THE PIPELINE |
Outside of the two (2) tennis opportunities as outlined above, the Sports Commission recently met with a soccer organization interested in developing an international youth soccer tournament (all ages) for next April. The event would be called the Orlando Cup, and would be positioned as an opportunity for boys and girl's state champions (and runner

ups) to compete amongst the very best teams from throughout the United States, along with select international teams.
The proposed venues for this event would the Seminole Soccer Club Complex and Sylvan Lake Park. Event organizers expect 100+ teams in the inaugural year. Stay tuned, as more details on this event opportunity should come available in a future impact report.

| WINS & LOSSES
(As of June, 2010) | |
Formal Bids Submitted: 10 Total Bids Won: 1 Total Bids Lost: 3
As we mentioned in an earlier impact report, the CFSC submitted several bids to the NCAA for the opportunity to host future National Championships in Seminole County. Unfortunately, we were recently notified that the 2013 Division II Men's & Women's Tennis Championships, 2013 Division III Men's & Women's Tennis Championships and 2013 Division II Women's Softball Championship were not awarded to the Sports Commission and Seminole County. NCAA staff indicated that their decision not to award the tennis championships to our community did not have anything to do with our recent proposal or our past hosting of their championships , rather the tennis committees wanting to provide the participating student athletes with the opportunity to compete at a different championship site within their four years of eligibility. However, they assured the Sports Commission that they would welcome the opportunity to return to Seminole County in the near future. In regards to Women's Softball Championship, we feel that the uncertainty of the Jetta Point project caused concern among the voting committee members. We hope to learn more about their decision in the coming weeks.
On a brighter note, the United States Adult Soccer Association has indicated that they have narrowed their choice of venues for the staging of the 2011 Veteran's Cup to two (2) sites, those being Seminole County and a complex in West Virginia. The Seminole Soccer Complex and Sylvan Lake Park would serve as our host venues. Event organizers have indicated that they hope to announce a formal decision within the next 2-3 weeks. Keep your fingers crossed!
